Teradyne XY motorized Translation Stage (4×4
$420.00This is a Teradyne compound XY linear translation stage with 4 inches of motion on each axis. The stage includes a pair of stepper motors, but there is no nomenclature on the motors, and the cables to the drive electronics have been severed. There are no knobs for manual operation. There are also two small oil reservoir covers, but I cannot see how the reservoir communicates with any of the moving elements, although there was definitely an oil residue on both the leadscrew and on the rod bearings, so it must function.
This stage probably dates from the late 1960�s but is in very fine condition and has some very interesting construction features that are quite unique. The fixed base of each axis consists of an aluminum extrusion the cross-section of which is shaped rather like a capital Omega. On the vertical section of both sides of the base a groove has been milled into which are set paired half-inch precision ground hardened bearing rods. The moving element (the table) wraps around the outside of the rods on each side. On the leading and trailing edges of each side of the table are half-cylindrical recirculating bearing cages. The table carriage is constructed in a manner that allows drawing the raceways against the rods using just two cap screws on the underside of the table. It is therefore very easy to preload the bearings and completely eliminate all play merely by setting two screws.
The leadscrew is supported on either end by very large ball-bearing races, and there is a flex coupling to the motor attached to the end of the stage. The motors on both axes are unmarked, and there is a terminal circuit board inside the enclosure next to the motors on both axes. Connections from the motor and also from a pair of limit switches are routed into the enclosure, as is the remnant of a truncated cable. My recommendation would be to replace the drive motors with new motors since none of the motor characteristics are known. It looks like an exchange could be very easily accomplished.
The two axes are easily separated after removing four mounting screws. I have done so for most of the photographs. Both axes are of similar construction, although the lower stage has three alignment pins set into the table platform (easily removed to produce a flat surface). Dimensions of the individual axis stages are as follows:.

The translation platform (160mm square) has an inset 5-inch internal threaded mounting ring that is compatible with the components of the Ealing Research Optical Bench series. The base is specially designed for the motor compartment � it is not merely an �add-on� to the manual stage. The central housing holds the flex-coupling to the lead screw and cable dress for the drive motor connector. The larger housing on the end of the drive system contains the motor itself..

We were not able to find a reference to this particular unit in any of our Ealing catalogs, but it is most similar to the non-motorized type 23-.

Daedel 4-inch Translation Stage with Slo-Syn Motor
$350.00This is a Daedal motorized 4 inch translation stage. There is a label on the stage that says Model 44044, but that number did not show up in any of the Daedel catalogs we have on hand except in reference to a hydraulic pump. It is very similar to the model 4955-04 we have on offer (a manual positioning stage with a mechanical digital readout), however this stage does not have a standard leadscrew. The leadscrew has a 0.4mm pitch � 2.5 revolutions advance the stage only one mm.
The motor is a Slo-Syn stepping motor, type M062-FD-421, with a resolution of 200 steps per mm, or combined with the leadscrew, a step resolution of 2 microns. The motor is dated 1986. There is a Jones plug connector on the drive motor cable but I am unsure of the pinouts. The motor axis does have a manual positioning knob. The motor and handle add an additional length of 110mm beyond the stage bracket.

It may be used to place the FH-1 filter holder module optic axis at a height of 2 inches (height of flanged base is 0.75 inches). The second component is a 1 inch cylindrical spacer that converts the BA-2 base into a BA-3 base, lifting the optic axis height to 3 inches. The components may be separated easily to convert to the BA-2 base.
The bases are in very fine condition. Some of them have �componsite� labels on the flanged base, indicating a complete system, such as FH1-B2, others are not labeled. Price is for one unit (BA-2 plus 1 inch extension)!

The housing adds an additional 3 inches to the width of the stage.

Unertl 7.5 inch Mirror Mount with hood
$750.00This item is a Rare Unertl adjustable mirror mount. The diameter of the mounting plate is 7.5�, and a nicely fabricated hood has been fixed to the circumference. The base does not appear to be original, nor does the back plate, although all the positioning screws and ball-pivot joint are certainly original Unertl parts.
The mounting plate does have a few scribe marks near the center, and three locating pads do not appear to be original (although they may be � they are very nicely made). Adjustment screws and piston are in near-perfect condition both cosmetically and functionally. The backing plate is very nicely machined, even though it is almost certainly not original.

Coherent Optics 2-axis 2″ Gimbal Mirror Mount #58
$150.00This is a two-axis gimbal-type mirror / lens mount marketed by Coherent Optics, Model Number 58. The mounting is quite clever � the turning axes are cylindrical magnets that also act as bearings. Two Starrett micrometer spindles actuate the motions. They bear against additional magnetic pads. I am not sure how repetitive the positioning is but there doesn�t seem to be much play at all in the bores for the magnet bearings.
The mirror mount will accept mirrors up to 2� in diameter, and using the clamping ring supplied, between 0.350� and 0.700� thick if the ring is not to be set proud of the mounting face. Clear aperture of the mount is 1.875�. Aperture is reduced by the clamping ring to 1.750�. Tilting range of both axes easily exceeds plus or minus 6 degrees.
The mounting base is 3.875� by 2.000� wide and has two counterbores for � 20 cap screws 2� apart, centered on the optic axis of the mount. The optic axis is located 1.375� from the end of the mounting plate.
The mount is in extremely fine condition.

Newport FH-1 Filter Holder
$32.00This is a Newport Model FH-1 filter holder. The holder uses a fixed aperture plate with two pins on which slide a second fixed aperture plate (aperture diameter is 1.5� in both plates. A third plate fixed to the front aperture plate serves as a baseplate. The gap between the two plates can be adjusted from zero to 1.38� so multiple filters and elements may be stacked together and then held perfectly upright by the sliding plate. The height of the optic axis from the base is 1.25�. Overall height of the holder is 2.25�, and the width of the holder is 2.75�. Length of the baseplate is 2�. The filter holders are in excellent condition!
