$165.00This is a Burleigh gimbal mount for optics or mirrors of 2 inches diameter. It is a true gimbal � both the azimuth and elevation axes are co-planar with the front surface of the mirror cell. The mounts are exquisitely made from three basic castings � two for each of the gimbal planes and one for the supporting plate. There are three basic subassemblies to the mounts. The gimbal mount with the micrometer spindles; the removable optic carrier mount; and an optional angle support plate. These mounts do NOT include the optic carrier or the optional angle support bracket.
The micrometer spindles are the earlier versions without the large diameter plastic rings. Each axis has internal springs to keep the gimbal plates in contact with the micrometer spindles, and in addition, a spring-loaded plunger for extra rigid settings. Klinger 1-inch Gimbal Mount SL25 BD
$430.00This item is a Klinger (also known as Micro-Controle, and now manufactured by Newport) SL type Gimbal optic mount. The SL gimbals are characterized by massive steel construction with two mounting flats for orthogonal positioning of the tilting axes so the controls are on the right or left side of the beam path. The two planes of tilt perfectly intersect the plane of the optic (often a mirror) so adjusting azimuth or elevation results in the reflection point always being stationary on the optic axis. The elements are held in place by a spring-loaded ring. There are three small bearing points to precisely locate the optic in the main yoke, and another three within the spring-loaded clamping ring. The securing screws are not quite symmetrically placed to aid in removal of elements through the slightly larger opening.
This particular gimbal mount uses the high-sensitivity differential �BD� micrometers. These micrometers feature both a course and a fine adjustment. This is the older version of the differential micrometer without the graduated thimbles. The sensitivity of setting is identical with the current micrometers, being approximately 0.1 micron.

The upper side of the carrier has a dovetail four inches wide but 10 inches in length. There is a cylinder head cap screw on one end of the dovetail, and it looks like there is a position for a second such stop screw, however it is not present. The mount is in very good condition. The part number on the cradle is 71-5082. It does not seem to be a current production item � BrunsonKC does not list it in their catalog. The green texture paint would indicate the cradle was made during the 1960�s, possibly early 1970�s.

Motorized X-Y stage (6×6 inch motion), Slo-Syn
$675.00This is an unmarked motorized translation stage. The table surface is 4.5 inches square and has a range of motion 6 x 6 inches. The baseplate is 12 x 7 inches (with an additional 5 inches required by the motor and coupling housings. The motor housing drops approximately 0.625 inches beneath the level of the base, so a riser plate would be needed if this were to be mounted on a large flat surface. The cross-motion stage is somewhat smaller, at 12 by 4.5 inches (again, with an additional 5 inches required for the motor and coupling). Height of the table from the bottom plate (excluding motor housing) is 3.00 inches.
Both motions are imparted by precision ball-screws with a 4mm pitch. On either side of the ball screw nut are paired recirculating bearing cages to eliminate any ptich wobble.
The motors are Superior Electric Slo-Syn synchronous stepping type, with 200 steps per revolution (0.02mm/step). Motor type number is M062-FD09. There are no connectors on the motors � the leads on one motor are about 4 inches long, on the other motor closer to 10 inches. There are also limit switches for either end of the excursion for both X and Y axes, however, they are not connected to anything presently.
The stage is in excellent condition and very nicely made.

Klinger SB18 YZ RMS Support (Differential BD
$400.00This is a Klinger (Micro Controle) model SB18 centering support. The overall diameter of the mount is 80mm, truncated on two right-angle sides for mounting on fixtures. There are four M3 tapped holes in a 20mm square pattern on each flat as well as a centered M6 tapped hole for pin mounting. The thickness of the mount is 27mm, and the centering disk in the center is 8mm thick. The disk is threaded with a standard RMS microscope objective thread.
This support is equipped with the optional BD differential micrometers. Sensitivity afforded by these micrometers affords a setting accuracy of 0.1 micron. The range of motion is plus or minus 2mm in both Y and Z. This unit is missing a small locking screw that is used to secure the mount in the �set� position. This is a simple M6 thumb screw that could easily be replaced. Overall the mount is in superb condition.

Spindler & Hoyer Adjustable Slit on Tripod
$525.00This is a beautifully made Spindler & Hoyer adjustable micrometer slit. The slit is actuated by a very fine threaded screw that drives a wedge against two flats milled into the corners of the slit blade carriers. It can be set anywhere between fully closed and approximately 3.8mm. The orientation of the slit is also adjustable � the entire slit carrier rotates on its carrier. There are two adjustable stops so the slit orientation is either horizontal or vertical at the extremes of motion. Slit height is 25mm. The diameter of the slit plate is 120mm.
The device is pin mounted (diameter is standard 13.7mm). The tripod base has two leveling feet and a small circular bubble level. There is a white scribe mark in the pin which, when set flush with the top of the support, places the slit at a height of 245mm above the table top (with the base leveled).
The instrument is in very fine condition � there are a few very tiny chips in the paint of the base, and the adjustment screw for the slit is slightly bent (but the bend is beyond the limits of its travel so it does not affect function).

$550.00This is an extraordinary set of Van Keuren fused-quartz optical flats complete with fitted hardwood cabinet. The set consists of three flats of two inch diameter and one flat of three inches diameter. All are 0.625 inches in thickness.
All four flats are accurate to 1 millionth of an inch on both surfaces. The three inch flat is marked 1CC for the bottom, 1CV for the top. All of the two inch flats are marked similarly � 1CV for the bottom and 1CC for the top. CV denotes �convex�, and CC denotes �concave�. I believe these are the highest grade flats that were commercially manufactured by Van Keuren, otherwise known as the �Reference� accuracy.
The flats are in absolutely flawless condition � there are no chips, scratches, or other blemishes on any of the surfaces. There is a current calibration sticker affixed to the cabinet (due date is 31 August 2010).

$165.00This item is a very nice compact prism tilting table manufactured by Klinger / Micro Controle. The model number is PO46. There are two fine-thread adjustment screws for pitch in both the X and Y direction, and a third fine-thread adjustment screw for rotation of the table through a small angle. The table has the lock option � once the proper plane and orientation has been established, a single screw locks the pitch adjustment, and another screw locks the theta adjustment.
This is the intermediate size support in the �PO� series of prism tables. Measurements include:

PLEASE NOTE � This mount is missing both the three spring-loaded fingers for securing optics on the reverse side of the gimbal mount AND the spring-loaded ring for conventional mirror mounting. Presently there is no means to secure the mirror within the gimbal short of cement. The spring-loaded rings from the much more common SL gimbal mounts will NOT work in these mounts.
This item is a Klinger Model SK Gimbal Mount for optics of 25mm diameter. These gimbals are somewhat more sensitive for mirror adjustment than the SL type gimbals. The SK mount is unusual in that there are two methods for securing optics or mirrors. The first method is similar to that found in the more common SL type gimbal mounts. There should be a spring-loaded ring with a pair of threaded posts to accommodate lenses or mirrors with edge thicknesses of up to 10mm. There is a recess in the gimbal mount machined for 51mm diameter lenses, with three precision bearing points that are perfectly matched to the common tilting planes for azimuth and elevation. The securing ring posts are slightly asymmetrical in order to allow easier exchange of the components via the larger of the openings. The minimum thickness for the mirror should be observed as the securing ring does not extend into the recess very far.
The second mode of mounting is for larger-than-specified 51mm mirrors. The recess on the opposite side of the ring mount is stepped and will accommodate mirrors in several sizes up to 78mm in diameter. The three spring-loaded arms (which are absent) would serve to secure the mirror into the appropriate recess. By reversing the mirrors so they face away from the mounting surface it is possible to use very steep grazing reflection angles.

HP 10724A Plane Mirror
$160.00This item is an HP 10724A Plane Mirror. It is a component in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometry Distance Measurement Apparatus. The mirror is used in conjunction with various 1.5� cube interferometer bodies. Unlike a corner-cube retroreflector, the plane mirror must be critically aligned to the interferometer. The leveling screws are not present and the special spring-loaded attachment screws are lacking. The device is also missing the label, but is otherwise in excellent condition. Mirror is flawless. Because of the missing components and the light cosmetic blemishes in the chrome finish this item has been rated as �second grade�.

HP 10706A Plane Mirror Interferometer
$275.00This item is an HP 10706A Plane Mirror Interferometer, but it is lacking the reference mirror component (HP 10724A). This item is one of the �medium-sized (1.5� cube)� components in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Dimensional Measurement Apparatus. The interferometer ordinarily consists of several assemblies. The cube assembly (present here) is a beam-splitting interferometer, type 10706A, which consists of a beam-splitter cube that plane polarizes the light. On either side of the cube would be mounted a type HP 10703A Retroreflector. The further addition of an HP 10722A optical wedge would allow the receiver to move relative to the interferometer body. The laser is on the opposite side from the receiver.
The angle of the beam-splitter is not critically set within the cube in order to keep component prices reasonable. For precise positioning it is recommended that the beam-splitter is fixtured using a large leveling base (HP 10711A). These mounts allow for corrections in two directions. Pitch may be adjusted through several degrees about the axis of the mirror component by resetting the cradle position in the base, and yaw may be adjusted using the play in the elongated slots for securing the base. The base of the mount has an open aperture so the beam path may be directed through the base of the fixture. Beams should ONLY be deflected at right angles in each laser / detector assembly in order to avoid depolarization of the laser beams.
These components have been removed from various fixtures. They meet our requirements for second quality used interferometer components. All optical surfaces are free of blemishes and there are no gouges or distortions in any of the parts that would in any way impede accuracy of measurements. Cosmetically these components do have some minor issues. Some of the dress plastic baffles that are inset into the steel frames are absent, and there are some minor scratches in the steel frames. No hardware is included with the interferometer body.

Large Achromat Objective, 125mm Diameter, 600mm
$875.00This is a very large precision achromat objective mounted in a cell with a standard size 13.7mm pin. The cell, finished in a crinkle black, has an outside diameter of 140mm, and is 77mm deep. The top of the post is 100mm from the optic axis of the objective.
Mounted within the cell is a cemented doublet achromat lens of 125mm diameter (the cell reduces the clear aperture to 120mm). The lens does have a MgFl coating. The focal length is relatively short for the diameter � only 600mm. We have a pair of identical lenses in identical mounts but we have listed them individually. The price listed is for a single objective in mount.
The lens is in excellent condition � no separation and no blemishes on the glass or in the coatings.

Ealing Triangular Bench Standard Pillar
$22.00This is a standard pillar for use with various Ealing triangular optical bench carriers. The pillar is 80mm tall and has three mounting counterbores for attaching to the carriers which are threaded to receive them. The bore in the pillar is 13.7mm in diameter, with a second eccentric bore directly opposite the clamp screw so smaller diameter posts can be clamped accurately. Smallest recommended diameter is 10mm. The part number of the holder is 22-4055.
The pillars are in great condition � most are gray color, although we occasionally see the later black ones..
