Cylindrical lenses find numerous applications in holography, as well as imaging elongated slits in spectrometers and monochromators.

Microscope with 10x Crossline 32mm
$300.00This microscope is very modular. The central component is the drawtube with focusing mechanism. The body of the instrument is fitted with a long 1 inch diameter threaded flange which is supplied with a locking ring. The thread allows the microscope to be attached to various Gaertner instruments, such as the precisions cross slides, instrument bases with cross-support arms, among others. The rack and pinions focusing has a range of 38mm. The nominal optical tube length of the microscope is 160mm.
Eyepieces are supplied with matched eyepiece adapter tubes so the optical tube length is maintained when switching eyepieces. The tube adapters are usually fitted with spider cross lines and therefore no attempt should be made to clean them! These microscopes are all fitted with the standard M250-242 adapter tube with 90 degree spider lines. The ocular is a type M242 Ramsden 10x, also standard.
Gaertner objectives are continuously threaded over their entire length (RMS standard thread) and have a locking ring. The continuous thread allows precise adjustment of the magnification ratio of the instrument when using micrometer eyepieces or filar eyepieces. Focal length of the objectives supplied with these instruments is 32mm (Gaertner part number M220).
As outfitted, the instrument has the following characteristics:
� 40x total magnification.
� 38mm working distance
� 2.75mm diameter object fieldAn optional component, the image erecting eyepiece adapter, may be installed instead of the eyepiece adapter tube. Depending on the adapter chosen, the eyepiece angle can be either 60 degrees or 90 degrees from the microscope axis, and an erect image is obtained due to the use of a special roof prism. Due to the extended optical tube length of the prism, the above characteristics would be slightly altered. We have these adapters listed elsewhere.
These microscopes are in good condition. They are in excellent mechanical and optical condition. Cosmetically, they show some evidence of use and may have minor alterations that do not affect typical function of the instrument (such as the addition of a tapped hole in the body tube).

� Filter type – interference dichroicThe filter appears to be dual-excitation dichroic. The wavelength characteristics are rather complicated. There is a sharp bandpass region that extends from 450 to 465nm. Then again, starting at 478nm it behaves for the most part like a long-pass filter. In addition, there are two very strong blocking lines at 538nm and 633nm.
Transmission characteristics are measured with the filter mounted at 45 degrees to the optic axis. The reflection characteristics are complementary to the transmission characteristics. The part number of the filter is not known. There is a bit of mounting medium (appears to be silicone) still clinging to the edge of the filter. Filter surface is free of blemishes.

This is a Spex model 1870B spectrometer. It features a focal length of 0.5 meters and fully adjustable input and output slits. The input slit is a type 1451N and includes an additional slider to adjust the slit height in steps. The output slit is a type 1451X mounted on a type 1871 adapter plate. On the output slit is a Products for Research PMT housing. The two collimation mirrors have a very faint haze � no cleaning has been attempted! The grating is a B&L type 35-23-06-960 with 1200 g/mm and a blaze angle of 26 degrees, 45 minutes. The grating appears to be in near-flawless condition � no haze or scratches of any kind. Controller for grating position will need to be sourced separately. There also appears to be a motor drive for scanning the input slit. Connection is via a BNC cable. Overall condition of the instrument is extremely fine. Serial number is 3513.
