HP 10710A Leveling Mount (Sm) with 45-

This is an assembly consisting of an HP 10710A Small Leveling Base on which a 45-degree fully reflecting prism has been cemented. Although the prism could have been used to deflect a beam downwards through the aperture in the base, the excess cement that covers the face of the prism adjacent to the base would preclude such use � much of the aperture is filled with cement. Therefore it was intended for use in directing a beam upwards at right-angles to the base-plate.

The prisms are very rigidly mounted. Rather than break the prisms in an effort to remove them, we have decided to offer them in the condition found. The first-surface mirror is in excellent condition, and the prisms (although exposed) have not been chipped or damaged.

Dimensions of the base are as follows.

Height = 0.5�

Width = 1.1�

Length = 1.85�

Through-bore in base = 0.5�

Prism face 20mm square

These components have been removed from various fixtures. They meet our requirements for second quality used interferometer components. All mechanical adjustments work smoothly and there are no gouges or distortions in any of the parts that would in any way impede accuracy of measurements. Cosmetically these components appear only lightly used, however I doubt the prisms can be removed without damaging the glass. No hardware is included other than the two screws used to secure the cradle to the base.

It is a component in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Distance Measurement Apparatus. The window is attachable to the 1.5� size interferometer bodies.

These components have been removed from various fixtures. They meet our requirements for first quality used interferometer components. All optical surfaces are free of blemishes and there are no gouges or distortions in any of the parts that would in any way impede accuracy of measurements. Cosmetically these components appear only lightly used, if not new. Unlike new components, however, no hardware is included. The only cosmetic issue with this particular window is the missing HP label with the nomenclature, hence the slightly lower price.

This is the basic interferometer in the 1.5� cube factor. It consists of a polarizing beam-splitter and the corner-cube reflector. One interferometer and one detector are required for each axis in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Distance Measurement Apparatus. The addition of the compensating converter window allows a second retroreflector to move relative to the fixed interferometer body..

The angle of the beam-splitter is not critically set within the cube in order to keep component prices reasonable. For precise positioning it is recommended that the beam-splitter is fixtured using a large leveling base (HP 10711A). These mounts allow for corrections in two directions. Pitch may be adjusted through several degrees about the axis of the mirror component by resetting the cradle position in the base, and yaw may be adjusted using the play in the elongated slots for securing the base. The base of the mount has an open aperture so the beam path may be directed through the base of the fixture.

HP 10715A Differential Interferometer, new in the original packing. It is one of the more elaborate interferometers using the 1.5� cube form factor. These components belong to the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Distance Measurement Apparatus. The interferometer includes a special diagonal beam-splitting window which I have not figured out � it may be some sort of phase shifting plate to turn the plane of polarization. The interferometer includes a special magnetic target disk used in the initial setup of the device. It includes two retroreflector modules and a converter window, but attached to the opposite side from the converter, is another module with a right-angle beam-splitter with two exit ports on each side, marked �A� and �B�. There appears to be a quarter-wave plate between the main interferometer body and the second beam splitter. I have no idea how the diagonal mirror is used. . .

Slight chip on unused portion of the reference mirror.

Again, this is new in the box. I believe this component would benefit from the use of the large leveling base (HP 10711A). The only mounting faces are the opposite sides of the main interferometer body.

This item, while missing the original HP label, has been identified as a type 10702A Linear Interferometer. The interferometer body has been scribed with the original beam-path schematic diagram found on the original label. This is one of the �medium-sized� components in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Distance Measurement Apparatus. The central cube is 1.5� square. On one side of the beam-splitter is a type HP 10703A Retroreflector, and on the opposite side, a type HP 10724A Plane Mirror. This interferometer is equipped with the Option 001 � a type HP 10722 Converter Window. None of the components have the original labels.

The angle of the beam-splitter is not critically set within the cube in order to keep component prices reasonable. For precise positioning it is recommended that the beam-splitter is fixtured using a large leveling base (HP 10711A). These mounts allow for corrections in two directions. All optical surfaces are free of blemishes and there are no gouges or distortions in any of the parts that would in any way impede accuracy of measurements. Hewlett Packard 10558A Beam Bender

This item is an HP 10558A Beam Bender in a fitted wood cabinet. It is one of the larger series of components in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Dimensional Measurement Apparatus. It is the equivalent to the HP 10557A Turning Mirror except that the mirror is fully enclosed in a cube assembly. This allows for the designer to direct a beam through an aperture in the mounting surface or to divert the beam at right angles to the mounting surface. For folding the beam in the plane of the mounting surface, the �Turning Mirror� must be used..

The block is a 2� cube, with a square 1.4� bolt-hole pattern face-centered on both the exit faces. One set of holes is tapped, the other are through-bore.

This mirror comes in a nice fitted wood cabinet. The original urethane lining had completely deteriorated and has been replaced with much more stable expanded polyethylene. The cabinet does have a minor crack in the rear corner that could easily be taken care of with some wood glue (see fourth photo). There is also some light writing on the cover of the cabinet. The urethane did slightly pit the surface of the block, therefore we have deemed this component to be of �second quality�. The mirror surface is unblemished, and the mounting surfaces, while very lightly pitted here and there, have not been dimensionally compromised..

Hewlett Packard 10567A Beam Splitter, 1st Grade

This item is an HP 10567A Dual Beam Beam-Splitter. This is a rather elaborate component in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometry Dimensional Measurement System. It is intended for use with two axis stages. There is a single 45-degree diagonal mirror mounted within the block, but it is not face-centered. The mirror has three �zones� of reflectance (or transmission), and three apertures on the side of the block facing the laser source. The lowest aperture is uncoated so the entire beam passes straight through the block The central aperture is where the source laser enters the block. The substrate at that point has a 50% coating, so half of the energy is reflected to the top on the block, and the remainder passes straight through. The upper aperture (on the side facing the laser) has a 100% mirror � all the light flux is diverted at right angles.

The outer two apertures on the side facing the laser are intended for the return beams from the interferometer bodies in each axis. The receivers may be placed on the same side of the block as the laser source. This is very useful when there are space constraints.

This is an HP 10565A Remote Interferometer. It is one of the major components in the Hewlett-Packard Laser Interferometer Measurement System. It is based on the larger 2� cubes, and uses a 1.4� square bolt pattern for mounting. The interferometer includes the matching retroreflector (HP 10556A). The remaining three entry / exit faces of the cube appear to have � lambda plates installed within them. I believe this is the standard configuration for the interferometer. No other reflectors (retro- or mirror) are included.
