  • Diagnositic Instruments HRP060-ENG12 0.6x

    Call 781-871-8868 for Price

This is the more elaborate version of the microscope relay lens system for video cameras. The relay lens is more highly corrected and suitable for the best microscope objectives with extended flatness of field and greater numerical aperture. It includes a built-in helical focus drive (10.25mm travel). The mount is a Sony bayonet (ENG 12).

The magnification of the relay lens is 0.6x. This reduction allows the camera to acquire a larger portion of the intermediate image than would be possible using no relay lens (1x). The relay is optimized for 2/3 inch CCD arrays (6.6mm x 8.8mm) and will provide the widest field of view with that size camera.

The relay system includes a Zeiss tube clamp adapter suitable for Zeiss microscopes of the Grayline series. Adapter height is 73mm, outer diameter is 60mm, and annular dovetail is 43.45mm in diameter. This clamp tube is interchangeable. If you are using a different type of microscope, you will need to order the appropriate clamp tube.

Adapter system is in superb condition.

  • Diagnostic Instruments 0.55x Microscope Relay

    $350.00

This is a special relay lens assembly designed for adapting CCD video cameras to various microscope phototubes ports. This particular system consists of four separate elements. The main portion is the relay lens housing itself, which has a tube factor of 0.55x. This allows the camera to encompass a significantly larger portion of the field of view as seen in the binocular tube than would be possible when not using any relay lens. The upper portion is threaded to accept interchangeable camera mounts. Included is a two-part adapter for Sony bayonet mount cameras (ENG 12). This adapter has a locking sleeve which may be used to parfocalize the camera CCD plane to the image in the binocular tube.

The lower portion of the relay adapter tube accepts a series of different clamp tubes used to fit the relay lens to the various microscope phototubes. The included clamp tube is not identified by type letters, but its dimensions are as follows. I believe it is a type BMX suitable for Olympus BX series phototubes.

Length (not including bottom annular dovetail) 127mm
    Dovetail diameter 42mm
    Dovetail height 5.8mm
Overall diameter of clamp tube base 59.75mm

The relay system is in excellent condition.

  • Wild Heerbrugg MTr2 6v 30w Regulating Transformer

    $150.00

This is a Wild Heerbrugg MTr2 6v 30w Regulating Transformer.

*** *Please note that the lamp socket is NOT included with the transformer it was photographed only to demonstrate the working condition of the transformer. ***

This is a nice regulating 6-volt transformer as supplied for several of the vintage Wild stereo microscopes. There are two output taps on the rear of the transformer which allow one to power a pair of 15w lamps or a single 30w lamp. The transformer is continually adjustable with the power switch integral with the intensity setting knob. A pilot lamp indicates that the power is on, and there is a volt meter for repeatable settings of lamp intensity. The output is continually adjustable. It is identical in most respects with the Model MTR 16 transformer, however it was originally supplied with a two-wire line cord. That has been replaced with a three-wire cord that has been internally grounded in a similar fashion to that of the MTR 16. The transformer also lacks the tap for a 250v primary line.

    Characteristics include:

    Input line selector 110 / 125 / 150 / 220 V
    Secondary 30 vA
50 or 60 cycle line current..

  • Leitz 20x Infinity Corrected Metallurgical Microscope

    $110.00

This Leitz objective is intended for work in the materials sciences – it is part of a series of objectives computed for use without coverglass using brightfield reflected light illumination. The objective is infinity corrected, so it MUST be used with an infinity correction tube lens, such as found in most Leitz metallurgical vertical illuminators.

    Magnification 20x
    Numerical aperture 0.35
    Standard achromat (not flat field)
    Objective thread standard RMS
    Adjustment length 45mm
MUST be used without cover slip

The objective is in very fine condition. No blemishes could be seen in the glass. It dates from the late 1960’s to early 1970’s.

  • Leitz 559 202 NPL 20x / 0.40 Strain-Free Reflected

    $280.00

This objective is infinity corrected and intended for use in reflected light examinations. It may also be used successfully in transmitted light applications provided it is used with an appropriate infinity corrected vertical illuminator. The lens is very sensitive to cover glass correction and MUST be employed without any cover-glass on the specimen. The red-filled nomenclature denotes that it is reasonably free of strain. As such, it may be used for non-critical ore microscopy examinations, or as a component in an interference contrast setup.

    Magnification 20x
    Numerical aperture 0.40
    Achromatic color correction
Flat field for normal wide-field oculars (index 18mm)
    Free working distance 2.3mm
    Objective thread standard RMS
    Infinity corrected
    Cover glass correction no cover-glass
    Low-strain for polarized light applications
Adjustment length 30mm (see explanation below)

The 30mm adjustment length of this objective warrants some explanation. Being an infinity corrected optic, the distance from the tube lens within the microscope to the objective is freely adjustable. This lens may be threaded directly into the individual centering collars as used on the pol vertical illuminators. The short 30mm adjustment length allows the examination of thicker preparations. When used on a nosepiece with DIN standard 45mm objectives, a 15mm spacer should be employed (not included). When employing Nomarski interference contrast, the objective is threaded into a special intermediate adapter that carries a Wollaston prism (catalog number 553 395). This prism is listed separately.

This lens is in superb condition without any blemishes noted in the glass elements. The lens cell shows some very light discolorations (see photos).

  • Leitz 569 117 Plan 80x / 0.75 D Metallurgical Objective

    $450.00

This is a very nice Leitz objective designed for use with their bright-field / darkfield illuminators that accept 30mm diameter threaded lenses. These illuminators included the MM-5 and MM-6 metallographs (the MM-5 requires special change rings for the 30mm thread); and the darkfield illuminators that fit the Ortholux I (Metallux I), Ortholux 2 (Metallux 2), and Orthoplan (Metalloplan) microscopes. The Ortholux II illuminators will also fit the Diavert (Epivert) microscopes. These objectives will not work with later style Modulopak illuminators the thread is incompatible and the design of the darkfield annular illumination path differs.

    Magnification 80x
    Numerical aperture 0.75
    Objective thread 30mm
    Infinity corrected
    Must be used without coverslip
    Working distance 0.18mm

This lens is a member of the high-end series of 30mm thread objectives, being corrected for flatness of field across a 28mm field-of-view index. It can be used with the super-wide field of view oculars. Magnification is 80x, which makes this the highest power in the Plan series (the others included 16x and 32x). These magnifications were selected by Leitz to provide part of the ASTM standard series when used with the wide-field versions of the vertical illuminators (0.8x tube lenses) and GW 8x oculars. That combination yields the 500x magnification with this particular objective. Numerical aperture is 0.75.

These are infinity corrected optics and must be used without a cover glass. The objective is not spring-loaded, so great care should be exercised when using the lens. Working distance is a mere 0.18mm! This particular lens is in fantastic cosmetic and optical condition. Concave front element is flawless. Leitz catalog number for this lens is 569 117.

    $325.00

    Magnification 16x
    Numerical aperture 0.30
    Objective thread 30mm
    Infinity corrected
Should be used without coverslip, but observation of coverslipped samples is possible in transmitted light.
    Working distance 6.9mm

This lens is one of the better series of 30mm thread lenses, being corrected for flatness of field across a 28mm field-of-view index. It can be used with the super-wide field of view oculars. Magnification is 16x, which makes this the lowest power in the Plan series (the others included 32x and 80x). These magnifications were selected by Leitz to provide part of the ASTM standard series when used with the wide-field versions of the vertical illuminators (0.8x tube lenses) and GW 8x oculars. That combination yields the 100x magnification with this particular objective.

These are infinity corrected optics, but the numerical aperture is low enough (0.30) with this objective that it is not sensitive to the presence of a cover glass. The objective is not spring-loaded, but the working distance is fairly substantial at 6.9mm. Glass is in flawless condition, and cosmetic condition is near-perfect. Leitz catalog number is 569 115.

  • Leitz NPL 5x / 0.09 Metallurgical Microscope Objective

    $180.00

This Leitz microscope objective was intended for the examination of metallurgical or semiconductor samples..It is corrected for a flat field of view when using standard GF (GrosFeld) oculars, hence the Normal PLan or NPL engraving. PL objectives were intended to be flat over the entire 28 mm field of view of the super-wide-field Orthoplan and large metallographs – the NPL’s are most suited for the 18 mm to 20mm field of view.

    Magnification 5x
    Numerical aperture 0.09
    Achromatic color correction
Flat field for normal 18mm oculars
    Standard RMS thread
Adherance to zero coverslip not manditory
    Adjustment length 45mm
    Working distance 6.2mm (?)
    Infinity corrected

The objective is infinity corrected as can be told by the ‘X’ mark following the magnification. While it is intended for samples without cover glass, the numerical aperture is small enough that it could be used in transmitted light with covered samples. It would still need to be employed in conjunction with an infinity corrected system, however. Attempting to use this optic with a 170 or 160 mm tube length system would introduce all manners of aberrations!

The lens is in superb condition – no scratches and the coatings are very strong. The lens dates from the early 1980’s since it rhas the relatively coarse knurl next to the thread seat.

  • Leitz NPL 20x / 0.40 Strain-Free Reflected

    $75.00

This is an earlier version of the Leitz NPL infinity strain-free objective for use in polarized light applications. The P designation means that it is critically free of strain and therefore suitable for use in ore microscopy applications. The lens is ‘short-mounted’ and may be threaded into centering collars for use with pol vertical illuminators. It is also suitable for combination with a Wollaston prism for Nomarski interference contrast applications.

    Magnification 20x
    Numerical aperture 0.40
    Infinity corrected
NPL flat field-of-view for standard 18mm index oculars
Must be used without a cover slip
Not spring-loaded care should be exercised when focusing and scanning samples

The cosmetic condition of the lens is excellent, however, the front element does have a flaw. There are three voids in the coating, one of which is quite elongated possibly from being used with a laser. The defect is only within the coating the underlying glass is fine, and no internal damage could be detected within the elements.

The lens has a relatively high numerical aperture of 0.75, and is highly corrected for flatness of field up to a 28mm field-of-view index, as well as very high color correction. The Fluotars are bested only by the Apochromats. The lens mounting thread is standard RMS which makes this lens suitable for earlier instruments such as the Ergolux, Metalloplan, and others which used RMS nosepieces. It may be used on more recent 32mm thread instruments via a type 562 281 adapter ring (not included).

Nomenclature is on an engraved ring which may be rotated on the objective for optimal visibility when installed on a nosepiece. Leitz part number of the objective is 567 039. I

  • 20x Eyepiece Pair for Stereo Zoom

    $60.00

This is a used pair of Bausch & Lomb stereo microscope oculars. They are intended for use in the StereoZoom series of instruments. They are of earlier manufacture, having the red-engraved nomenclature on the clear anodized aluminum barrels.

    Magnification 20x
    Eye relief 9mm
    Barrel diameter 23.2mm
Field-of-view index 12mm (diameter of object field when microscope zoom set to 1x)

These oculars are in very fine optical condition, but cosmetically I would rate them somewhere between ‘fair’ and ‘good’. There are some identification marks engraved in the barrel, and the clear-coat anodizing shows some deterioration. The upper black-anodized bezels are very worn. The base of the barrels have slight crimps from having been dropped. The crimps come nowhere near interfering with the image (the diaphragms are quite small compared to the diameter of the barrel). However, it does mean that unthreading the diaphragms in order to mount reticles will most likely not be easy, if even possible (see second photo).
