  • Leitz 713 005 LAF 200 Module / Ergolux 200

    $790.00

    Leitz LAF 200 Module / Ergolux 200

This item is the laser autofocus version of the Leitz Ergolux 200 Modulopak. It does not include any of the inserts (reflector inserts, diaphragm inserts), but it does have the complete laser auto focus attachment for the Modulopak portion. It does include the 0.8x tube lens as well as the bayonet changer for the viewing tube.

Leitz part number is 713 005. Manufacture date was 24 August 1995. Serial number is 139. The autofocus system is only that portion that attaches directly to the Modulopak we do not have any cables, control panels, or control electronics. The drive motor for the Z-axis is also not present.

Cosmetic condition of the module is decent there are a few scuff marks in the paint here and there but they are very minor. Unfortunately, we have no way to test the LAF system without the rest of the microscope and electronics. Cover to the laser compartment does not appear to have been tampered with the MEL seal is still intact (the MEL division of Leica Microsystems was responsible for semiconductor instrumentation). The laser system is critically aligned at the factory and should never be tampered with!

  • Zeiss MC 63A Photomicrographic

    $36.00

This Zeiss control panel is a slightly simplified version of the MC-63 electromagnetic shutter control panel. The MC63 camera system, developed for the Zeiss photomicrography photo ports, consisted of several modular building blocks. Central to the system was the housing with the electromagnetic shutter. The base of the housing clamped onto the photo tube of the microscope in which was installed a photographic projection ocular. The top of the unit carried the relay lens system and film back, usually a 35mm camera system or 4×5 large format back (special Polaroid backs were also available). Within the shutter body was a small beam splitter that diverted a small portion of the light to a photo-diode detector. This was connected (via the same cable as operated the shutter) to the control unit.

The exposure was timed automatically after programming the ASA or DIN information into the control panel. Course steps were set via the upper knob, and fine steps via the lower knob (-1, 0, +1). DIN settings between 6 and 37 were possible (ASA 3 to 4000). A simple release button actuated the shutter. There is also a test button that times the exposure without opening the shutter.

Green LED indicates power ON position. Yellow LED next to shutter glows when shutter is open, and red LED when the test button is selected (yellow LED will glow for duration of timed exposure, but without exposing film).

Control unit requires standard IEC type line cord (not included), and is currently set for 120v mains. 220v may also be selected, but fuse should be exchanged for proper protection. Condition of the control panel is excellent, but it has not been tested with a shutter unit at this time. As soon as we have one with which to test it, we will add that information to the listing!

  • Wild Pillar Stand (earlier) with 25mm Post Knuckle

    $160.00

This listing consists of an earlier Wild (now part of Leica Microsystems) stereo microscope boom stand. The stand is quite heavy, at about 35 pounds, so is capable of supporting a fairly substantial instrument quite a distance from the central pillar. The base is about 8 inches in diameter and carries a solid 25mm diameter post with a total height of about 16 inches. There is a supporting collar and a cross-bored clamping block that in turn carries the boom also 25mm in diameter and approximately 14 inches in total length. Attached to the horizontal arm is an outrigger post with clamp that carries a second pillar at right-angles to the horizontal boom. The diameter of the post is 20mm, so this accepts the earlier cream-colored Wild stereo microscopes.

There is no provision for a stop screw on the end of the post, so one has to use care when adjusting the position of the instrument! The base has some very minor marks in the finish, and there is some light corrosion in the chrome finish of the main vertical post. All adjustments work easily, however.

  • Leica PL APO 50x / 0.90 Microscope Objective

    $950.00

This is a Leica PL APO 50x / 0.90 Microscope Objective.

Yet another very recent objective well suited to semi-conductor examinations (as well as general metallography). This is a Leitz Germany Plan Apo 50x / 0.90 lens, catalog number 567 056. This objective does not appear to have been used, however there is a number 632 engraved on the nomenclature ring. Otherwise, there are no blemishes discernable either cosmetically or optically.

Plan Apochromat optics are corrected for a super-wide field of view index of 28 mm. The Apochromatic color correction is the highest obtainable. This is not an EPI version of the lens in other words it does not include an annular condenser system concentric with the main objective for dark field illumination. It is strictly a bright field lens. It is not designated as strain-free which means it may not produce the best images when using interference contrast, but most objectives of very recent manufacture are very free of strain issues. The objective is spring-loaded for specimen and objective protection.

The lens is corrected for infinity tube length, and must be used on samples without a cover slip! The lens does have the standard RMS (20mm) mounting thread because it doesnt have to accommodate the epi-illumination darkfield optics. In order to be used on the same nosepiece with the epi-objectives, an RMS to 32mm thread will be required. The objective will work with the Ergolux, Metalloplan, MM-6, and similar microscopes outfitted with an RMS type vertical illuminator. When fitted with the adapter, it is suitable for the relatively recent Leitz microscopes which include the Ergoplan and the DMR series reflected light instruments as well as the current DM 4000, 4500, and 6000 M microscopes.

  • Bausch & Lomb SK Pillar Stand with ER-Arm (gray)

    $325.00

This is a very fine example of the most elaborate stereo microscope stand produced by Bausch & Lomb. The model number is SK, and it comes with an ER type focusing drive carrier for the various B&L stereo microscope pods. The ER arm is similar to the simpler type E arm, except that the pod may be rotated about the optical axis, greatly increasing the versatility of the stand. This stand is one of the older versions, since it is light gray in finish instead of black.

The base has a crank for elevation of the pillar, which is free to rotate. The crank may be locked in place with a sliding catch, and the rotation may be clamped with a large knurled knob. Horizontal extension of the arm is accomplished via a massive rack & pinion motion. The boom has a massive counterweight.

At the end of the boom is a vertical joint with approximately 160 degrees of motion that holds an extension arm about 5 inches in length. At the end of the extension is another adjustable knuckle that may also be rotated. The focusing yoke (E or ER arm) pin fits into the other end of this knuckle. When you add the two orientation motions of the ER type arm (angle and rotation), you end up with a total of eight degrees of motion independent of the focusing drive itself.

This base is quite heavy, and does require a fair amount of real estate, but in turn, it does allow one the greatest amount of latitude in positioning the microscope for best viewing position. The stand is in exceptional condition. All mechanical parts work perfectly, and cosmetically the stand itself is great.

  • Bausch & Lomb Neutral Density Filter in Cell

    $35.00

This item is a neutral density filter in a small paddle carrier. It was manufactured by Bausch & Lomb, with a catalog number of 31 30 04. I am not sure of the strength of the neutral density filter (it isnt marked) but it appears to be close to 25% transmission. I am also not sure with which instrument the filter was intended to be used.

There is a recessed cell that holds the filter itself, and the outside diameter of the step portion of the holder is about 36mm. The overall diameter of the circular lip is just a tad greater than 41mm. Overall thickness of the holder is ~4mm. Condition of the item is mint no marks anywhere.

  • Wild (Leica) 20w Halogen Spot Illuminator

    $180.00

This item is the business portion of the Wild (now Leica) 6v 20w halogen incident light illuminator. It is missing several parts, including the heat filter and one of the filter retainer screws; a swing-out filter holder with a diffusing disk installed (clips to either of the chrome posts between the focusing lens and the housing); an the special articulating arm with central clamping knob. This later arrangement would have fastened to the base of the illuminator at the front end (the two tapped holes are visible in the first photo, bottom left). The socket and both collector lenses are present (both the fixed and focusable lenses), and the existing portion of the illuminator is in superb condition. The socket shows no evidence of use, and comes with a lamp installed. No transformer is included.

If the articulating arm system is required, we do have access to the assembly at an additional cost of $165.00. Part number for the lamphouse (which would have included the clamping assembly) is 445 155. The clamping assembly was sold separately as part number 399 211. Clamping assembly is new unused inventory. The clamping assembly could be fixed to several fixtures including a stand-alone baseplate, special bosses fixed to various Wild stereo microscope bases, or to special clamps attachable to the focusing column of the stand.

  • Leitz PL Fluotar 32x Microscope Objective

    $430.00

This is another spectacular condition Leitz metallurgical (or semi-conductor related) microscope objective. It is a Plan 32x, infinity corrected optic, and must be used only on uncovered specimens.

The lens has a relatively high numerical aperture of 0.75, and is highly corrected for flatness of field up to a 28 mm field-of-view index, as well as very high color correction. The Fluotars are bested only by the Apochromats. The lens mounting thread is standard RMS which makes this lens suitable for earlier instruments such as the Ergolux, Metalloplan, and others which used RMS nosepieces.

Nomenclature is on an engraved ring which may be rotated on the objective for optimal visibility when installed on a nosepiece. Leitz part number of the objective is 567 039. The lens is in superb condition – no marks of any sort on the glass, and the barrel is free of blemishes. I do not think this is a new objective (it was not in a storage capsule, and there are faint traces of residue in the knurling which would indicate it had been installed on an instrument), but the lens should certainly perform like a new one.

  • Zeiss Epiplan 16 / 035 Metallurgical Microscope Objective

    $140.00

Zeiss Epiplan 16 / 035 Metallurgical Microscope Objective

This is a reflected light (metallurgical and semiconductor / materials sciences) objective for the Zeiss 160mm tubelength microscopes, commonly referred to as the Grayline instruments. The objective is well-corrected for flat field imaging of uncovered polished flat objects. It must not be used with cover-slipped biological microscope slides! The adjustment length is the DIN standard 45mm. Characteristics include:

    Magnification 16
    Numerical aperture 0.35
Cover-glass correction Uncovered samples, degraded performance with cover-slipped samples
    Adjustment length 45mm
    Objective thread RMS standard
    Flat-field correction
    Not spring-loaded (see notes below)

Typically this series of objective was found on the small inverted metallographic microscope. As such, the sample rested face-down on top of the stage, above the objective. If accidental contact were made with the sample, it would merely lift the sample away from the stage, seldom damaging either the objective or the sample. Similarly, when used on the larger upright research microscopes, a special auto-leveling stage was employed where the sample was spring-loaded against a reference surface underneath the stage superstructure. Again, the sample would ‘give’ in the case of accidental contact.

This objective is in absolutely new pristine condition. Optics are flawless and there are no marks anywhere on the bezel or housing.

  • American Optical 1860 Epi-Star Microscope

    $100.00

    American Optical 1860 Epi-Star Microscope.

This is an American Optical EpiStar materials inspection microscope. It does not include anything other than the basic stand..

The Model 1860 Industrial Microscope stand has a very large yoke and is able to accommodate stages with up to 6 by 6 inches of travel. The stage is rigidly clamped to the microscope base and does not move during focusing. Instead, the nosepiece carrying the objectives is the only part that moves. The infinity corrected optics of the system allow moving the objectives relative to the rest of the stand without any loss in optical corrections..

The stand has a special super-long-life 20w halogen lamp (life rated at 10,000 hours) that is situated at the back of the stand. A filter turret has four positions one open, one diffusion disk, a daylight blue filter, and a strong green filter. A fully adjustable field iris is situated just forward of the filter turret.. The illumination train has a swing-out beam-splitter used for brightfield vertical illumination. When swung to one side using the lever on the right side of the microscope, the illumination flux is directed to an annular mirror just above the revolving nosepiece. The nosepiece will accommodate five objectives using RMS threads. The continuously regulating transformer is built into the base of the stand.

Stage, stage carrier bracket, observation tube, and optics will need to be sourced. Please check our website for available components.

  • Unitron Multibeam Interference Objective,

    $160.00

This is a most interesting microscope objective. It is intended for use in reflected light applications for the quantitative study of surface finish or very small-scale step height profiles. The objective is a complete multi-beam interferometer. The objective threads into the microscope nosepiece like a normal lens. The front of the objective is threaded and carries a small interchangeable reflective beam-splitter. Once the sample is focused, the beam-splitter may be lowered until it touches the sample. Contact with the sample produces interference fringes that relay information about the surface topography of the sample.

The beam-splitter mirror included with the objective is marked ‘FLAT’, and appears to have a reflection coating of approximately 60%. In practice, it is best to come close to matching the reflectivity of the sample to that of the beam-splitter. For highly reflective samples, such as mirrors and silicon wafers, the nominal beam-splitter value would be closer to 90%.

The surface of the reference mirror appears to be free of scratches, however the reflective beam-splitter surface has several voids. Fringes will still be seen in these areas, but they will be far fainter. It would be best to have the mirror re-coated. Because of the contact nature of this type of interference, and the fact that the reference mirror is rotating is it is brought to bear on the sample, exceptional care should be exercised when employing this type of objective. Ideally, the mirror should be ‘pre-focused’ easily done using the voids in the surface, then the fine focus of the microscope used to bring the sample to the proper position. Samples should never be scanned when the interferometer plate is touching the sample!

The reference mirror cannot be tilted independently of the optic axis, so it would helpful if the sample were supported on some sort of cup-bearing stage with very fine tilt adjustments. This would enable one to adjust the spacing and the direction of the fringes. Also required for fringe coherence and measurements would be a precision line filter or a spectral lamp source of known wavelength. We have several different monochromatic filters available. Please inquire!

    $300.00

    Leitz 569 237 NPL 50x / 0.85 * Metallurgical

This objective is a member of the Leitz metallurgical ‘NPL’ series. It has the additional infinity / ‘0’ engraving, which means the lens MUST be used with an infinity corrected optical system (as found on most Leitz vertical illuminators for industrial and metallurgical applications). The ‘0’ means it is vitally important to adhere to the uncovered sample stricture common to most metallurgical samples. The single knurl instead of a double-knurl indicates it was among the most recent of the plain NPL objective series.

    Magnification 50x
    Numerical Aperture 0.85
    Achromatic color correction
Flat field for normal 18mm oculars
    Standard RMS thread
    Infinity corrected
MUST be used without cover slip

  • Plan Apo 25 / 0.65 Research Microscope Objective

    $550.00

This Leitz objective is intended for work in the biological sciences. It has the highest levels of correction for both flatness of field and for color fidelity. It is intended for use on the earlier Leitz instruments corrected for a tube length of 170mm (such as the Orthoplan research microscope), although it is equally useful on the later 160mm tube length instruments. It must be employed with a cover-slipped specimen, with the nominal cover-glass thickness being the industry standard 0.17mm. The Plan-Apochromats remain the most highly corrected microscope objectives.

    Magnification – 25
    Numerical Aperture – 0.65
    Apochromatic correction
    Free working distance 0.63mm
Flat field for super-wide oculars (index 28mm)
    Objective thread – standard RMS
    Correction distance – 45mm
    Cover glass correction 0.17mm

The objective is in exceptional cosmetic condition and in perfect optical condition. No blemishes could be seen in the glass. It dates from the late 1970’s. The optic is spring-loaded for lens and specimen protection.

  • Leitz Filter 513-828 Cube I-3 for Ploem Fluorescence Illuminators

    $700.00

Leitz Filter 513-828 Cube I-3 for Ploem Fluorescence Illuminators..

This is an I3 fluorescence filter cube with a set of filters that are specific to FITC. The dichroic has a split at approximately 510nm. The excitation filter consists of a broad-band blue exciter with very sharp cutoff at 495nm, and a blue absorbing filter to narrow the band pass to between 455nm and 495nm. The barrier filter is a long-pass at 510nm. The presence of the blue absorbing filter helps suppress auto-fluorescence and increases the signal-to-noise ratio..

The cube has a vertical dovetail for mounting in the fluorescence vertical illuminator that is identical to that found on the earlier version Leitz filter cubes, however the profile of the cube is narrower, and the cube lacks the registration pin used to fix the height of the dichroic when mounted in the illuminator. I am not sure which instruments the cube fits please refer to the photos.

The cube is in excellent condition. There is an identification number painted on the side of the housing. The filters appear to be free of blemishes.

  • Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom 4 Pod, 0.7x

    $100.00

This is a nice example of the Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom 4 microscope pod that started it all. All metal construction and uniform smooth black finish means this represents the  second generation  of the instrument. The StereoZoom 4 was introduced in the mid-1950s and remained in production for over 50 years with very little change

This was by far the most popular of the StereoZoom series, with a zoom range of 0.7x to 3x Magnification can be further varied by exchanging the oculars (B&L has eyepiece pairs from 10x to 33x designed for use with the stereo pod), or by threading an auxiliary objective adapter onto the front of the pod. The later are available in various magnifications from 0.3x to 2x, but they alter the working distance of the pod. This yields a magnification range of 2.1x to 180x depending on the combination of oculars and auxiliary lenses selected.

These pods are typically in excellent cosmetic condition and fine optical/mechanical condition. The dust seals beneath the ocular tubes are usually present but often a bit dried out. Alignment is checked, and the zoom mechanism is relubricated to prevent image shift during zooming.

Pod catalog number is 31-26-94. With standard 10x oculars (not included) the field diameter ranges from 28mm at 0.7x to 6.6mm at 3x, with a working distance of 100mm. Instrument remains in focus throughout the zoom range.

To make a complete instrument you need a focusing yoke (included with some of the simpler stand versions), a support stand, and a pair of oculars. Optional needs would include an illumination source. Inquire regarding the availability of complete systems or multiple units.
