  • Leitz (Leica) Ergoplan FSA-WR Viewing Tube

This listing consists of a complete Ergoplan viewing tube, catalog number 572 069. This tube features super-wide-field optics (30mm diameter ocular tubes), adjustable binocular tube inclination, and a special retro-reflection system that allows certain accessories to project reticles or masks directly into the oculars. The Leitz description is Ergoplan Tube FSA-WR. In addition, the tube has a relay lens turret with magnification factors of 1x, 1.6x, and 2.5x. There is a standard ISO 38mm diameter photo port.

The condition of the viewing tube is very fine, and functionally perfect (it was tested and the alignment checked). This tube is intended only for use with the Ergoplan instrument it is very massive and requires a very substantial stand to support it

  • Leitz (Leica) Ergoplan 8 by 8 Motorized Stage

This is a Leitz (Leica) motorized stage from an Ergoplan semiconductor inspection microscope. The stage has a travel of 8 by 8 inches. There are rotary encoders on each axis. The stage may be driven manually by unthreading the caps over each encoder housing thereby revealing a small knob (see last photo). Leitz part number for this stage is 572 072.

We do not have any of the driver electronics for the stage. There are two DIN round locking 12-pin connectors on the side of the stage (one for each axis). The stage runs on cross-roller bearings, and the lead screws are precision ball-screws. The vacuum wafer chuck that was with the stage is being offered separately. We do not have the standard glass insert that would have been originally delivered with the stage.

The stage is in very fine condition both axes have been rebuilt and all bearings cleaned and relubricated. There is no play in either axis, either in the cross-roller bearing ways, or in the lead screws. This stage may easily be adapted for other instruments besides the Ergoplan, but be advised that it has substantial weight just shy of 20 pounds without any insert. There are two bearing ledges on the base of the stage that may be used to support the stage on a flat surface, but the original means of mounting was via four counter-bored holes in the bottom horizontal plate.

  • Leitz Leica Ergoplan Z-axis Stop Mechanism

    $200.00

This is another spare part from a Leitz (Leica) Ergoplan semiconductor microscope. This module plugs into the left front of the microscope base. It is used to set the upper travel limit opto for the Z-axis (focus) drive of the microscope. The module consists of the external dress plate, the adjustment knob, the reck-and-pinion drive that carries the opto sensor, and the wiring harness which also includes a second bracket with a pair of limit switches..

The knob on the assembly is spring-loaded. In order to engage the pinion, the knob must be pressed inwards. Once the upper travel limit has been established (wafer chucks can be of widely differing heights) then the cover is secured to the knob to prevent accidental movement. Not only does the cover prevent the knob from being pressed inwards to engage the internal clutch, but there is a small cut-out in the knob which is meant to fit over the head of the Allen cap screw in the corner of the dress-plate. This prevents the cover from turning. This is a very useful spare part for Ergoplan users.

  • Leitz ICR Polarizer Insert 573 097 for Ergoplan

    $480.00

This is a polarizer slider for the Leitz (Leica) Ergoplan semiconductor microscope it may fit other instruments as well. The Leitz part number is 573 097. The dimensions of the slider are 120mm in length, 28.5mm wide, and 11.5mm deep. There is a small bevel on the upper forward edge of the slide to prevent accidental insertion of the slide in the inverted position.

The slider consists of three elements. The first is the actual polarizing filter. Then there is a plate inserted in a cutout that appears to be a quarter-wave plate that is oriented so the permitted vibration directions are parallel to the analyzer and polarizer in other words, no light is passed in that position. Then there is a third element opposite the polarizer. Behavior of the slider was similar whether it was upright or inverted when an analyzer was placed in front of the slider and brought to the extinction position (no light transmission) and the slide was inverted, there continued to be zero transmission. The central plate also has a pair of set screws so it can be critically set.

I have been unable to figure out the function of these additional two plates. There was an earlier version of the Leitz reflected light interference contrast in which the polarizer could be rotated behind a fixed quarter-wave plate this permitted a variation in the contrast without having to move the Wollaston prisms with respect to the optic axis, instead the polarizer is rotated behind the fixed quarter-wave plate. However, in the Ergoplan, the polarizer is fixed and the Wollastons are adjustable.

The slider is in near-perfect cosmetic condition, and the optical elements are in perfect condition.

  • Fiber Optic Ringlight Illuminator, unmarked – 32

    $100.00

This is another fiber optic ringlight without any manufacturers marking, however it is very well made. Even the clamping screw is stainless steel set into a special stainless nut. The bundle is 32 inches long, and the input ferrule is a non-standard size (0.561 inch diameter and 0.500 inches long). The bundle is armored but does not have vinyl cladding.

The ringlight has an outer diameter of 3.325 inches and is 1.193 inches tall. The larger interior diameter is 2.289 inches, stepping down to 2.000 inches. There are three 10-32 tapped holes located near the base of the ringlight (one opposite the input ferrule, the other two at 90 degrees). I am not sure if they were meant for an accessory or if they were meant for another means of mounting, but they are blind holes about 3/8 inch deep.

The ringlight is in near-perfect condition there are no fiber drop-outs, and everything is very clean.

    $135.00

This is a Fostec fiber optic ringlight illuminator. The bundle length is 30 inches (ferrule to ferrule), and the bundle is armored and vinyl clad. The input ferrule is stepped the smaller and shorter diameter is 0.625 inches and 0.240 inches long. The larger diameter is 0.715 inches with a length of 0.475 inches. Largest diameter of the ferrule is 0.868 inches.

The ringlight has an outside diameter of 3.485 inches. The overall height of the ringlight is 1.066 inches. The larger internal diameter is 2.600 inches, with a step down to 2.370 inches. There is a small groove on the light exit side of the ring onto which may be placed a rotating polarizer foil (not included). The ringlight does not have any means of directly fastening to the microscope (no set screws).

In order to fasten to the microscope another ring is attached to three threaded holes on the top of the ringlight. This attachment ring is missing from this particular ringlight..

These ringlights are in superb condition.

  • FS Gooseneck Fiber Optic (Threaded Ferrule)

    $60.00

This is an unusual fiber optic gooseneck. The output ferrule is threaded for a length of 1.50 inches and there is a locking nut on the ferrule. The threads mate with special collector lenses which are focused by where they are positioned on the thread, and locked in place using the nut. There is no manufacturers mark on this bundle, however we have a bifurcated bundle with identical fittings it has a manufacturers mark on the base which consists of an elided F and S (Fostec / Schott?), but no other marks.

The input ferrule is 0.623 inches in diameter. There is no flat milled into the ferrule, presumably because it doesnt matter what orientation it is secured in. The length of the input ferrule is 1.5 inches.. The overall length of the bundle is 26 inches.

This is a very nicely constructed bundle the arm stays where it is placed and there is no fiber drop-out. The ferrule ends are also very nicely finished. Condition is superb.

There is a manufacturers mark on the bundle base which consists of an elided F and S (Fostec / Schott?), but no other marks.

The input ferrule is 0.623 inches in diameter with a large flat milled onto the upper side. The length is a bit longer than the usual half inch, at 0.600 inches. The overall length of each arm is 22 inches.

  • Metric Bifurcated Gooseneck Fiber Optics

    $75.00

This is a nicely made (but no manufacturers mark) bifurcated fiber optic gooseneck. The anodizing on the ferrules has faded making them a bit unattractive, but they are very well-behaved they stay where they are put. There does not seem to be any fiber drop-out either and the bundle ends are well-finished.

The dimensions on these bundles are definitely Metric. The bundle length is 500mm, and the input ferrule has a stepped sleeve. The smaller diameter is 13mm by 16mm in length, with a step up to 20mm diameter, 15mm in length. The 20mm sleeve has a flat milled on one side, and on the opposite side is a hole in the facing flange, probably to engage a pin on the fiber optic illuminator (to prevent the bundle from tipping to one side in the port).

The output ferrule is 9mm in diameter, and 11mm long. The output diameter of the bundle is about 6mm.

These are in very nice condition if you have the correct illuminator with which to use them.

  • Generic Bifurcated Gooseneck Fiber Optics

    $40.00

I would honestly be a bit generous in calling these budget bifurcated gooseneck fiber optic bundles. They will get light from one end of the bundle to the other, but the bundles typically will experience fall-out in one or both sides, although the highest percentage I have seen probably doesnt approach 40. The other problem is that the goosenecks often do not stay where they are set. Sometimes there are flaws in the coils that cause the bundle to bend at an angle that cannot be straightened. And lastly, the bundles at the tips of the ferrules are often not flush with the ends.

In dimension, they were made to be compatible with the Dolan Jenner bifurcated bundles (.625 x .500 inch long input ferrule, and .500 x 1.475 inch long output ferrule), complete with the flat milled on the top of the input ferrule. The good thing about these is that they are very inexpensive they WILL get light from one end to the other (although not 100%), and if you have a means of securing the output end where you want it, they represent a huge savings over the Dolan Jenner bundles

  • Dionics, Inc. Bifurcated Gooseneck Fiber Optics

    $140.00

This is a Dionics, Inc. bifurcated fiber optic bundle for illumination purposes. Each arm of the bundle is 16 inches long. The output ferrule tapers down so the extremity is only 0.187 inches in diameter (3/16 inch). The length of the small diameter is .665 inches. Actual fiber bundle diameter at the tip is 0.125 inches.

The input bundle diameter is 0.175 inches. The diameter of the ferrule for the illuminator end is 0.625 inches, and 0.500 inches in length. There is a small flat milled on either side of the input ferrule for secure clamping.

These are exceptionally well made bundles they stay put once they are positioned, and the quality of the construction is evident everywhere. There is no fiber drop-out in any of the bundles.

  • McPherson Spectrogram-Measuring Microscope

    $1,000.00

This is a very rare item. It is a McPherson measuring microscope designed for critical measurement of spectral line separation. Plates can be scanned over an area of 250mm by 100mm. The measurement in the X-direction is via a scale on the front of the instrument graduated in single mms. Resolution is increased to 1 micron via a vernier on the 150mm diameter drum dial for the leadscrew. The leadscrew itself has a diameter of 25mm, with a pitch of 1mm.

The negative table can be released from the leadscrew easily for quickly checking other areas of the negative. The table can be moved in the Y-direction via a small knob on the left side of the platen, and the position read via a vernier to an accuracy of 0.1mm. There is also a small knob on the front of the table to the right which allows a very small adjustment of the theta angle so the negative scan is perfectly orthogonal.

No clamps are included for securing the spectral scans. There are bores on both sides of the long axis of the carrier, presumably for some sort of retaining system.

The microscope is suspended above the scan by a double-arm limb for extreme rigidity, but the focus adjustment is a conventional dovetail arrangement with rack & pinion. The microscope tube and focus drive are manufactured by Bausch & Lomb and date the instrument to the late 1950s or 1960s. There is a cross-line reticle in the focusable inclined ocular.

The instrument is missing the lamphouse, and the connection for the lamphouse appears to be unique. There is a standard fork-type 50mm adjustable microscope mirror in the base.

This is an incredibly finely crafted instrument in really spectacular condition (with a few minor chips in the paint on the back of the microscope support limbs). The leadscrew is in perfect condition, and all motions work flawlessly. The serial number of the microscope is 10024. Very uncommon.

  • Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom 4 Pod 0.7x 3x

    $90.00

These are nice examples of the Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom 4 microscope pod that started it all. Being of the gray color, this represents the first generation of the instrument. It was introduced in the mid-1950s and remained in production for over 50 years with very little change.

This was by far the most popular of the StereoZoom series, with a zoom range of 0.7x to 3x Magnification can be further varied by exchanging the oculars (B&L has eyepiece pairs from 10x to 33x designed for use with the stereo pod), or by threading an auxiliary objective adapter onto the front of the pod. The later are available in various magnifications from 0.3x to 2x, but they alter the working distance of the pod. This yields a magnification range of 2.1x to 180x depending on the combination of oculars and auxiliary lenses selected.

The pods are in excellent cosmetic condition and fine optical/mechanical condition. The dust seals beneath the ocular tubes are no longer present (the earlier seals tended to dry out and crumble away). Alignment is checked and verified. The gray pods are more difficult to clean than the later generation instruments because the dust glass under the ocular tube can only be reached after complete disassembly of the pod (in later units the dust glass was easily removed for cleaning). These glasses tend to collect a film of outgassing from the lubricants used in the zoom mechanism, and in serious cases can render the pod close to useless. Internal surfaces of the dust glasses and the front objectives are cleaned (photo of pod base was taken before cleaning objectives). Zoom mechanism is relubricated to prevent image shift during zooming

Pod catalog number is 31-26-94. With standard 10x oculars (not included) the field diameter ranges from 28mm at 0.7x to 6.6mm at 3x, with a working distance of 100mm. Instrument remains in focus throughout the zoom range.

To make a complete instrument you need a focusing yoke (included with some of the simpler stand versions), a support stand, and a pair of oculars. Optional needs would include an illumination source. Inquire regarding the availability of complete systems or multiple units.

There is no tube lens in the system, nor is there any zoom mechanism. This is the simplest of the tubes available for the Dynazoom instruments. I believe the black versions of the Dynazoom (which were of later production than the gray ones) were infinity corrected, so the tube lens would have been in the microscope stand or the nosepiece.

This tube probably dates from the late 1960s, perhaps as late as the early 1970s. It is in exceptional condition almost new. . . Quite a neat vintage piece of equipment
