Davidson D-600 Comparison Autocollimator

This used Davidson D-600 Comparison Autocollimator comes from a working environment. Please call us for more information..

From Manufacturer Website:
– Measure angular differences between two reflecting surfaces to 0.1 arc second
– Readings are not affected by instrument movement
– Extremely simple to check surface plates or machine tool alignment
– Measure about either vertical or horizontal axis

Model D-600 Comparison Autocollimators apply a unique principle of autocollimation to compare and measure small angles with extremely high precision. Specifically, the instrument measures the difference in angle between two reflecting surfaces. A beam of collimated light from the instrument is divided to illuminate a reference mirror and a second mirror whose relative angle is to be determined. The patented design employs a unique arrangement of optical tipping plates coupled to a calibrated micrometer dial, where the relative angle is read when the images are aligned. Differences in angle of the returning beams can be measured with average repeatability of 1/10 arc seconds, either vertically or horizontally. The micrometer dial is graduated in 1/10 arc seconds, with each second numbered. One complete revolution of the dial is equal to 10 arc seconds with a total range of 120 arc seconds. Of utmost importance to precision is the fact that instrument movement during reading will only move the images in the field of view; it will have absolutely no effect on the reading. This fact eliminates the rigid mounting and extreme handling care demanded by other instruments, where any motion is translated directly into the micrometer reading.

Manufacturer Specifications:
– Sensitivity: 1/10 arc sec
– Accuracy: 0.5 arc sec
– Focal Length: 20 inch (508 mm)
– Aperture Diameter: 2.375 inch (60 mm)
– Measuring Range: 120 arc sec
– Micrometer Scale: Graduation 1/10 sec One revolution equals 10 sec
– Housing Material: Aluminum
– Overall Dimensions: (L x W x H) 23 x 5.375 x 5.125 inch (584 x 137 x130 mm)
– Finish: Black enamel
– Carrying Case: Hardwood

Epiplan HD 6.3 / 0.16 Microscope Objective

Here is a wonderful condition Zeiss incident light objective with darkfield illumination capability (HD, for Hellfeld / Dunkelfeld). This objective is quite scarce – the magnification (6.3 times) places it in the early series of the Epiplan HD lenses which included 6.3, 10, and 25, not found in the far more prevalent later series. Numerical aperture of this lens is 0.16.

The thread diameter of the objective is 24 mm (the Zeiss “HD” thread), and the adjustment length of the lens is 33 mm (distance from the specimen to the thread seat when properly focused). This objective is therefore parfocal with the later Epiplan HD series. The lens is also corrected for flat field. The outer mirror bezel can be adjusted by loosening the lower set screw . This allows the user to carefully set the optimum illumination for the sample being observed. For most applications, the bezel can be left in the original factory set position. I am not certain about working distance of this particular lens – the objective is recessed quite a ways beneath the level of the reflector, however, and is therefore relatively well protected.

Condition of the objective is superb – no damage to the front lens, and no delamination anywhere. Even the chrome bezel is cosmetically close to perfect. Serial number of the lens is 4056408.

72 Inch Fiber Optic Bundle with 1 x 36mm Output,

This fiber-optic bundle has a rectangular output mounted in a flat aluminum block. The block is equipped with a second module with a tilting mirror arrangement.

Input ferrule is the standard Volpi. The output block measures 2 inches wide, 1.5 inches in length, and is 5/8 inch thick. Face-centered, the output measures ~1mm wide, and 36mm long. The tilting mirror adds another 0.8 inches to the length, and the mirror may be locked in any position.

The bundles are in very good condition with the exception of a couple of rub spots where the vinyl-cladding has been abraded and the armor very slightly misshappen. Light transmission has not been affected and the bundles remain pliable even in the compressed locations.

Stepper Mask Projection Lens with Proximity

This is a massive stepper lens assembly in a very heavy steel enclosure. The external jacket is either stainless steel or INVAR and weighs close to 50 pounds. The tube assembly is 16 inches long and 165mm in diameter. The front element (mask side) measures approximately 75 mm in clear aperture. The front element bezel is engraved GCA / Tropel, 5-2135-KRF, with the serial number 212011.

The KRF designation denotes a Krypton Fluoride excimer laser. Therefore the lens would be corrected for a wavelength of 248nm, meaning the elements would be fused silica or quartz glass.

The output side of the lens (substrate side) has an annular attachment that appears to have several functions. Most obviously the surrounding metal flat serves to protect the output element. Built into the annular ring is some sort of proximity sensor system. There is a photomultiplier tube (the pins of which are visible in one of the photos) and an elaborate lens system built into the side of the collar. There is a forward-facing lens element with externally adjustable deviating mirrors which are probably used to regulate the focus of the lens.

These photolithography lenses are exceptionally highly corrected for distortion. Typical construction in a lens of this vintage (early-1990’s) might consist of 25 or more elements. We do not have any of the electronics used to drive the PMT system. We only have what is shown in the accompanying photos. The lens appears to be in perfect condition, but we have no means to rigorously test it.
