This HP pioneered and patented technique allows the master HP 4945A to completely and flexibly control and collect data via the remote slave HP 4945A over the lines under test, so that end-to-end tests can be run automatically from the master instrument.

The 12AX uses a Germanium detector, and was cycled through the five wavelengths (780, 850, 1300, 1310, and 1550nm). It did pass self-calibration procedure.
