This unit came from a working environment and was removed from a working analyzer.

The Agilent 8530A is a fast and accurate microwave receiver designed for both manual and automated antenna measurement and radar cross-section measurement applications. It offers fast data acquisition speeds, excellent sensitivity, wide dynamic range, multiple test channels, and frequency agility, without compomising measurement accuracy. This receiver provides broad frequency coverage from 45 MHz to 26.5 GHz, with extensions to 110 GHz. The Agilent 8530A can be a replacement receiver for existing antenna or RCS range receivers. With the Agilent 85370A antenna position encoder, the receiver can be interfaced to virtually any positioning system. Any Agilent 8510 network analyzer can be upgraded on-site to an Agilent 8530A microwave receiver with the Agilent 85395A/B/C kits. The Agilent 8530A is the basis for the Agilent 85301B/C custom antenna and RCS measurement systems.

This module is a component of several Hewlett Packard spectrum analyzers based on the 70K series Modular Measurement System (MMS). It is easiest to quote the Agilent website for an overview:

“The Agilent 70902A provides narrow resolution bandwidths, from 10 Hz to 300 kHz. This intermediate frequency (IF) section provides signal processing elements required for spectrum analyzers and lightwave signal analyzers. The Agilent 70902A maximizes measurement speed using 10% incremental bandwidths. Wide bandwidths offer the most speed, whereas narrow bandwidths offer more resolution and sensitivity. The 10% incremental bandwidth steps offer you the best choice of bandwidth sizes. The bandwidths can also be changed in a 1, 3, 10 sequence. Calibrated logging amplifiers provide superb amplitude accuracy for the analyzers. The 3 MHz IF output on the Agilent 70902A allows connection to other instruments such as demodulators, digitizers, and oscilloscopes..

“The HP 70902A IF Section is a 1/8-width module, providing a resolution bandwidth of 10 Hz to 300kHz, designed for use in HP 70000 Modular Measurement Systems. The module processes a 21.4MHz signal from a spectrum analyzer RF section or external mixer interface module. A detected video signal is produced and routed to the video processor in the local oscillator. The module contains resolution bandwidth filters, log amplifiers, detection circuitry, and video filters. The HP 70902A can be used with an HP 70903A in a single system to provide resolution bandwidths of 10 Hz to 3 MHz.

The HP 70902A is a slave module and as such is controlled by the system master (for example, the HP 70900A(B) Local Oscillator).”

The module is in exceptional cosmetic condition. It was tested prior to being placed in inventory in a complete system and found to perform properly without errors.

This module is one of several available RF sections that determine the bandwidth of the Hewlett Packard series 70000 Modular Measurement System (MMS) spectrum analyzers. The bandwidth of this section extends from 100 Hz to 2.9 GHz. This instrument includes Option 015 which is a Lan port. The hard disk drive (which is used for data and file storage) was removed from the instrument. The instrument includes all of the original diskettes, but no other documentation. There are two probe cable assemblies. The oscilloscope portion of the instrument has been tested and functions properly. We were unable to test the logic analyzer portion, but it did pass all self-tests except for the missing hard disk drive. Condition of the analyzer is very fine – screen is very bright without any signs of screen burn.
