This is one of most well-respected heavy-duty tripods available. The ‘Heavy-duty Pro’ tripod from Linhof features tubular aluminum dual-post legs. The extendable portion is easily clamped in place using an eccentric cam lock lever so adjustment is very fast and secure. The central aperture of the tripod is 90mm in diameter and includes a simple camera mounting adapter with 3/8-inch tripod thread. This plate may be replaced with an optional rack & pinion driven elevator post (not included).

The top of each extension leg has a small boss to which a special chain may be attached using hooks supplied for that purpose. There is no central spider to symmetrically adjust all the legs at once. The chain allows one to regulate the position of the three legs independently. There is a small bubble level built into the top of the tripod.

Condition of the tripod is excellent. The ribbed vinyl-clad tubes have none of the cracks in the ribbing that plague many of these tripods. The extendable legs have no dents or dings and work smoothly. The soft white plastic cushions at the ends of the legs have dried out but are still present. The hard rubber adjustable tips retract to reveal heavy steel points for work on rougher surfaces. The paint does show evidence of use, but is still very attractive. The only problem I noted was that the plastic ball handle on the end of the clamp for the central insert has snapped off, but the clamp still works easily. (See photos).

Although relatively light (at about 14 pounds) these stands will still very securely support a heavy 8 x 10 view camera without any problems.
