This is certainly the finest stage ever made for the examination of 8-inch wafers under a microscope This Kensington stage is very massive (over 200 pounds) and formed the base of the Reichert Polyvar SC semiconductor research microscope. For that reason the base is quite long in the front-to-rear dimension the upright frame of the Polyvar was secured to the rear center of the base.
The stage consists of four independent motions. The bottom X translator occupies much of the base plate with 8 inches of motion front-to-back. Sitting on top of that is a second 8-inch translator for the Y axis. On top of the Y translator is an 8-inch diameter rotary stage. This stage may be moved in the Z axis through several millimeters.
All motions can be actuated manually using provided knobs. The stage is intended to be driven by a Model 4000 multi-axis controller equipped with suitable driver boards. The standard user interface is a small keypad that displays coordinates of the stage and degrees of theta rotation. This listing is ONLY for the actual stage as illustrated. The controllers and the driver boards are available separately, as are some of the user interface keypads.
The specifications on the Kensington 4000 series stages are most impressive 0.1 micron resolution, 0.2 micron repeatability, and 1 micron total measurement error over the entire range of travel. Readout is via glass scales (covers shown removed on the X axis so construction may be seen). Theta rotation can be read to 4 arc seconds, with similar specifications for repeatability and accuracy. The theta stage has a recess for use with wafer loading equipment. The stage surface is provided with vacuum connections. Vacuum line connections are located on back panel immediately above the electrical axis connectors.
The stages are in spectacular condition. You will need to add a Model 4000 five-axis control system plus one axis driver board for each axis (Z-axis is optional, as is the theta axis, but a theta axis board is strongly recommended) Other components needed are the connection cables, and the user interface keypad with display. All of these components are manufactured by Kensington.

This is an unmarked motorized translation stage. The table surface is 4.5 inches square and has a range of motion 6 x 6 inches. The baseplate is 12 x 7 inches (with an additional 5 inches required by the motor and coupling housings. The motor housing drops approximately 0.625 inches beneath the level of the base, so a riser plate would be needed if this were to be mounted on a large flat surface. The cross-motion stage is somewhat smaller, at 12 by 4.5 inches (again, with an additional 5 inches required for the motor and coupling). Height of the table from the bottom plate (excluding motor housing) is 3.00 inches.
Both motions are imparted by precision ball-screws with a 4mm pitch. On either side of the ball screw nut are paired recirculating bearing cages to eliminate any ptich wobble.
The motors are Superior Electric Slo-Syn synchronous stepping type, with 200 steps per revolution (0.02mm/step). Motor type number is M062-FD09. There are no connectors on the motors the leads on one motor are about 4 inches long, on the other motor closer to 10 inches. There are also limit switches for either end of the excursion for both X and Y axes, however, they are not connected to anything presently.
The stage is in excellent condition and very nicely made.

This is a Design Components linear motorized stage consisting of two linears arranged in an XY configuration. Each linear motion slide is 15 x 10 inches (base and top plate same). There is a mounting plate for NEMA 23 motors that is proud of the base long dimension by 0.720. The flex coupling is present on both stages, but both motors are absent. Each stage has a 6-inch range of motion and runs on cross-roller bearings.
Each linear has an end-stop detector system fixed to one side with adjustable limit plates. All four plates are present, and the cable for both axes terminates in a single connector (see third photo). Each linear stage is 3 tall, so the pair is 6 inches tall. The upper slide is pin-registered to the lower slide, and may be removed if desired. Model number of the stage is DC-1010R Serial number is M1-11. The complete stage weighs close to 77 pounds without motors.
The stage appears to be in excellent condition. Both linears were run to the limits of their excursions without any problems. The lead screws appears to be a ball-screw type and very little force was required to actuate the stage
I was unable to find out any of the specifications on this stage, but it certainly appears that it is meant to support hundreds of pounds.

This is a Teradyne compound XY linear translation stage with 4 inches of motion on each axis. The stage includes a pair of stepper motors, but there is no nomenclature on the motors, and the cables to the drive electronics have been severed. There are no knobs for manual operation. There are also two small oil reservoir covers, but I cannot see how the reservoir communicates with any of the moving elements, although there was definitely an oil residue on both the leadscrew and on the rod bearings, so it must function.
This stage probably dates from the late 1960s but is in very fine condition and has some very interesting construction features that are quite unique. The fixed base of each axis consists of an aluminum extrusion the cross-section of which is shaped rather like a capital Omega. On the vertical section of both sides of the base a groove has been milled into which are set paired half-inch precision ground hardened bearing rods. The moving element (the table) wraps around the outside of the rods on each side. On the leading and trailing edges of each side of the table are half-cylindrical recirculating bearing cages. The table carriage is constructed in a manner that allows drawing the raceways against the rods using just two cap screws on the underside of the table. It is therefore very easy to preload the bearings and completely eliminate all play merely by setting two screws.
The leadscrew is supported on either end by very large ball-bearing races, and there is a flex coupling to the motor attached to the end of the stage. The motors on both axes are unmarked, and there is a terminal circuit board inside the enclosure next to the motors on both axes. Connections from the motor and also from a pair of limit switches are routed into the enclosure, as is the remnant of a truncated cable. My recommendation would be to replace the drive motors with new motors since none of the motor characteristics are known. It looks like an exchange could be very easily accomplished.
The two axes are easily separated after removing four mounting screws. I have done so for most of the photographs. Both axes are of similar construction, although the lower stage has three alignment pins set into the table platform (easily removed to produce a flat surface). Dimensions of the individual axis stages are as follows:.
Stage Base Length = 9.375 inches (not including end caps and motor housing)
Stage Base Width = 3.750 inches
Overall Length of Base = 14.25 inches (includes motor and bearing housing)
Overall Width of Table Carriage = 4.75 inches
Precision Ground Table Length = 5 inches
Table Width = 3.5 inches
Height of Stage = 2.375 inches (single axis only)
Overall Height of Compound Stage = 4.75 inches
The stage is in very fine condition mechanically they look mint, but there is a bit of paint loss on the sides of the two carriages (very minor). I do not know the load-bearing capability of the stage, but it is certainly exceedingly robust.

This is a motorized version of the Ealing Large Vertical Travel Stage. It has a excursion range of 12mm. The translation platform (160mm square) has an inset 5-inch internal threaded mounting ring that is compatible with the components of the Ealing Research Optical Bench series. The base is specially designed for the motor compartment it is not merely an add-on to the manual stage. The central housing holds the flex-coupling to the lead screw and cable dress for the drive motor connector. The larger housing on the end of the drive system contains the motor itself..
Stage width and length 160mm
Stage clear thru bore 3.5 inches
Stage height 35mm
Threaded ring 5 inch 12TPI
Horizontal Load Bearing 22 pounds
Vertical Load Bearing 15 pounds
Drive motor is marked BergerLAHR, and 10 84, which I am guessing is the month of manufacture (April 1984). It is also marked RDM 56(4) / 50, and IP 54. It appears that the steps / rev can either be 500 or 1000 (step size = 0.72 degrees / 0.36 degrees).
