Stepper Mask Projection Lens with Proximity
$4,000.00This is a massive stepper lens assembly in a very heavy steel enclosure. The external jacket is either stainless steel or INVAR and weighs close to 50 pounds. The tube assembly is 16 inches long and 165mm in diameter. The front element (mask side) measures approximately 75 mm in clear aperture. The front element bezel is engraved GCA / Tropel, 5-2135-KRF, with the serial number 212011.
The KRF designation denotes a Krypton Fluoride excimer laser. Therefore the lens would be corrected for a wavelength of 248nm, meaning the elements would be fused silica or quartz glass.
The output side of the lens (substrate side) has an annular attachment that appears to have several functions. Most obviously the surrounding metal flat serves to protect the output element. Built into the annular ring is some sort of proximity sensor system. There is a photomultiplier tube (the pins of which are visible in one of the photos) and an elaborate lens system built into the side of the collar. There is a forward-facing lens element with externally adjustable deviating mirrors which are probably used to regulate the focus of the lens.
These photolithography lenses are exceptionally highly corrected for distortion. Typical construction in a lens of this vintage (early-1990’s) might consist of 25 or more elements. We do not have any of the electronics used to drive the PMT system. We only have what is shown in the accompanying photos. The lens appears to be in perfect condition, but we have no means to rigorously test it.

1.25x Stepper Mask Projection Lens
$1,600.00This is a 1.25x relay optic used for printing on substrates from photo masks. It is corrected for 308nm wavelength which indicates fused silica or quartz optics throughout. The tube assembly is 3 inches in diameter and 21.75 inches long. The objectives have a clear aperture of 48mm. Both ends of the tube include special protective metal cover plates that may secured by button-head cap screws. The lens cells appear to be quite elaborate.
The tube assembly is supported by a baseplate 13.25 inches in length and 4 inches wide. The plate is 0.375 inches thick. It includes a pair of Melles Griot rack & pinion adjustable height pin carriers each holding a mounting ring. Fine centration is accomplished using 100 TPI thumb screws which bear against a spring loaded plunger. The optic axis height is nominally 5 inches from the bottom of the base plate. The rack & pinions have about half inch travel, and the adjustment screws within the tube yokes have approximately plus / minus 3mm in height and aximuth..
One side of the tube is marked ‘substrate’ and the other ‘mask’. The Tamarack Scientific part number is 690.0002. We were unable to identify which camera system(s) with which these were used. The assembly is in flawless condition.

This is an interesting sine bar arrangement. It is custom-made, however the machining is superb, and the components used to manufacture it of the highest caliber. It is missing the original Brown & Sharp micrometer spindle which measured to an accuracy of 0.0001 inches. The plate is equipped with a Brunson coincidence level, type 194.
The aluminum plate dimensions include
Base – 12 x 3 inches, 1 inch thick. Three leveling feet on 10 inch centers
Hinged upper plate – 12 x 3 inches, 0.75 inches thick.
Center-to-center distance (hinge to micrometer spindle) – 11 inches
Bore for missing micrometer is 0.875 inches in diameterThe plate comes in a nice fitted wood cabinet and is in excellent condition.
