The ability to integrate data from geographically dispersed surveillance sensors can result in enhanced safety, increased system capacity and efficiency, and substantial cost savings. The Saab Sensis System Interface Unit (SIU) is a highly modular data format and protocol converter that enables the integration of disparate sensor data. Each SIU module contains four independent, bi-directional serial channels which support a variety of protocols, electrical standards and message formats. The SIU�s rack-mountable enclosure provides power for up to six SIU modules and a 10BASE-T Ethernet hub (10/100BASE-T Switch). The SIU modules and enclosure form an Ethernet network to transfer datausing standard TCP/IP and UDP/IP communication protocols. Additionally, the enclosure has a spare Ethernet port to connect multiple SIUs for communication between the serial data channels and modern, networked computer systems or displays. SIU channels can be easily re-configured over an Ethernet connection using a maintenance software program.
