This listing comprises an excellent Nikon CFW 15x wide field ocular. The eyepiece has a focusable eyelens. The built-in rubber eye guard is missing. The ocular is 23.2mm in diameter and is intended for use in compound microscopes such as the Optiphot.
The CF designation denotes chrome free, meaning that the color corrections within the ocular are independent of those of the objective. Many manufacturers balance the color corrections between the objectives and the oculars – using an objective from one manufacturer and an ocular from another is likely to result in over-correction of some aberrations, and under-correction of others. One of the reasons Nikon prefers to completely correct both oculars and objectives is that it eliminates the color fringe that is often seen about the periphery of the field of view diaphragm.
The glass appears to be free of all blemishes. The barrel shows very light signs of use. Unlike most of the Nikon CFW oculars I have seen, this one has white nomenclature instead of yellow, and the radial groove that indicates the point of nominal focus is left unfilled with pigment. Most likely it is an early iteration of the optic.
