Leitz Retroreflector Right-Angle Prism

This is a rare item. It is a Leitz right-angle prism for use with autocollimators and alignment telescopes. It consists of a beam-splitter mounted on a cast pillar. The beam-splitter is arranged so the incident beam strikes the prism interface and is deflected downwards where a retro-reflector is cemented. The upper surface of the prism (opposite the retro-reflector) is open. Presumably this device aids in making a reference plane above the prism parallel with the base of the prism mount while still being able to check orthogonality with a vertical reference plane..
I was unable to find out any specifications on the item, but Leitz metrology equipment is rated with the very best. The instrument is in excellent condition, but does not include a cabinet (there is a protective paper sleeve for the prism, however).
