Laser Beam-Combining Assembly with Camera Port

Laser Beam-Combining Assembly with Camera Port…

This device appears to be a laser beam combining port so a camera system can image the workpiece on the same optical axis as the laser. This would be important for initial workpiece setup. There is no manufacturers mark anywhere, but the device is very nicely constructed. The camera port is completely open, with a smooth bore of 50mm aperture. On the beam delivery side, there is a focusing optic of 40mm diameter. This lens can be focused through a range of about 12mm via a small micrometer spindle.

The combining element appears to be some sort of dichroic filter as expected, it remains stationary as the lens is focused. On the input side of the module are two components. The first appears to be a Schott Glass BG 38 blue glass filter. Mounted with that filter in the same bore is a lens of 24mm diameter. The inside diameter of the input port is 49mm, with a step down to 35mm after a depth of 6mm. There are three set screws placed equidistant in the 49mm portion of the bore.

Overall length of the assembly is 220mm with the lens fully extended. On the distal end of the objective is a thin slot that appears may have held a dark slide presently it is empty. First photo shows the device from the side, camera port facing downwards. The second photo shows the camera port with the dichroic inside. The last photo shows the beam input port. The device appears to be in perfect condition with the exception of a trace of haze at the margin of one surface of the blue filter barely visible at the edge. The objective, the smaller relay lens, and the dichroic beam-splitter are all flawless..
