  • Leitz 513 502 Condenser / Cap 0.55 / S15

    $250.00

This condenser belongs to the series of interchangeable condenser upper elements used with the more recent 160mm tube length Leitz microscopes (such as the Aristoplan, Diaplan, Laborlux 12, etc). The thread size is larger than that of the earlier 600 system condensers so it is only suitable for the 160mm tube length system condenser bases. It was also used on the special condenser for the Metalloplan HL microscope because of its long working distance..

    Specifications on the element include:
    Numerical aperture 0.55.
    Working distance 15mm
    Correction achromatic, but not aplanatic

Condition of the element is near perfect.

American Optical Series 10 Microscope with DIC Epi Illumination & Triocular Tube

Original price was: $599.00.Current price is: $495.00.

American Optical (AO) Series 10 Microscope with DIC Epi-Illumination and Trinocular Tube….

Classic American Optical Series 10 that is equipped with the very scarce incident light Nomarski interference contrast equipment. The stand includes the special vertical illuminator with the filter turret that contains an analyzer, daylight blue filter, diffusion disk, and dense green filter. A lever on the illumination tube flips in a polarizer that is properly oriented with respect to the analyzer in the turret. The illuminator is provided with fully adjustable field and aperture diaphragms and a tungsten lamp with continuously regulating transformer.

The nosepiece of the microscope is a special version that holds sliders with Wollaston prisms matched to the various objectives. Please note that only the slider for the 20x objective is included the others were not present. The Wollaston prism slide contains a long wedge Wollaston and an open position for normal observations in bright field (or crossed polarized light). When the prism is engaged, a graduated knob on the opposite side of the slide moves the prism so that the background color may be selected. The prism travel goes from a first-order red one side of the extinction position to just shy of the second order red on the opposite side. While the prism is intended for use with the special infinity strain-free optics, the single objective that was installed on this instrument was a Nikon U20. This is a special strain-free optic that was designed for use with the Nikon universal rotating stage after Federow. It is not parfocal with the American Optical objectives, but since it is the only one installed, that isn’t an issue. Surprisingly, the image it yields is exceptionally flat, and the Wollaston prism works perfectly with the lens. Extinction is uniform across the entire field when the prism is set at the zero order (black background). The oculars are Bausch & Lomb 10x wide-field high-eyepoint, type 31-15-71..

The viewing head is a trinocular type with a port for a photo tube. It includes the photo tube eyepiece adapter, an American Optical 15x ocular, and a rubber light excluding collar for use with independently mounted camera systems.

The XY mechanical stage includes a standard slide holder arrangement. The stage is ungraduated. Its height may quickly be adjusted through a large range and clamped using a lever on the side of the stage. The stage remains stationary during specimen focusing only the nosepiece with the objectives and Nomarski prism move.

No transmitted light equipment is supplied. The condenser fork and the pinion drive for focusing the condenser have both been removed from the substage.

The entire microscope has been completely rebuilt and is in near-perfect condition. Optically, everything is perfect no blemishes in any of the elements and everything is aligned. Cosmetically, there are a few minor scratches in surface of the stage, but the rest of the instrument is in exceptional condition.

NOTE: Shown with lamp socket – socket is missing presently.,

  • Polaroid MP-4 Copal Rim-Set Shutter in Mount,

    $80.00

This is a Copal number 1 shutter that is mounted on a circular plastic lens board that is marked for the MP-4 camera system. The periphery of the lens board is graduated from f 4.5 to f 32 with a lever that actuates a pin protruding from the rear of the lens board. The shutter does not have an aperture diaphragm the pin appears to actuate a diaphragm located externally to the shutter, possibly within the lens, which is absent.

Like most Copal Press rim-set shutters, all speeds including the slow-speeds run by the governor escapement still function perfectly. The shutter may be tripped either by a built-in release on the side of the shutter or by using a cable release (not included). The boss for the cable release has been reinforced with some sort of epoxy.

The shutter is in excellent condition but the lens board nomenclature is printed on a thin piece of plastic which is pulling away from the lens board on the edge. Speeds include from 1 second to 1/125 second. A second lever on the side of the shutter opens the leaves manually.

  • Bausch and Lomb EM-14 Dynazoom Trinocular Microscope

    $975.00

This is a Bausch and Lomb EM-14 Dynazoom Trinocular Metallurgical Microscope with Trivert Illuminator.

This is a ‘not-quite-complete’ Bausch & Lomb Dynazoom metallurgical microscope that has been modified for the observation of extra opaque samples. This was accomplished by the addition of a spacer block which raises the limb about an inch higher from the base. The stage carrier has been modified so the stage sits a similar distance further from the viewing head, thus providing extra room for the vertical illuminator assembly.

These microscopes are very modular, so it is helpful to state how this one is configured. The stand itself features a low-set coaxial coarse and fine adjustment mechanism that is comfortable to use with the hands resting on the table surface. The stage is the plain type without any mechanical stage attachments. It is provided with a fixed condenser sleeve underneath the stage into which a simple single-lens condenser and iris have been clamped. The condenser does not appear to be factory original.

The base of the stand includes an optional hi-intensity illumination housing with a lamp socket. This housing has a centerable field iris diaphragm with built-in filter recess. There is no transformer for the transmitted light illumination, it will need to be sourced elsewhere. The plug on the end of the transmitted light socket is missing.

The stand is provided with the most elaborate version of the many tubes that were available for this instrument. This microscope tube has binocular observation and a control knob to switch the light path into a port on the top of the tube. It also features a 1x to 2x continuous zoom mechanism that operates in both the photo and binocular ports. The zoom knob is graduated. The microscope pod may be turned through 180 degrees so the limb of the stand may either be away from or close to the observer (the vertical illuminator prevents continuous rotation). A pair of B&L 10x wide field oculars is supplied as is a photo-port adapter collar. This collar would be used with various shutter housings that Bausch & Lomb manufactured for their camera systems. No cameras are included.

The vertical illuminator is the most elaborate of the several Bausch & Lomb provided for the Dynazoom. Called the ‘Trivert’, it has provisions for bright field, dark field, and (when so optioned) polarized light. Please note that no polarized light accessories are included with the equipment! The illuminator has separate field and aperture diaphragms and a slot for receiving filters. A selector knob next to the beam-splitter swings in a central stop for observations in dark field (field and aperture diaphragms must be fully opened). This illuminator is missing the socket for the lamp (it was tested with the socket from another instrument). Also missing is the Jeffey transformer for regulating the missing GE 1630 low voltage lamp.

The base of the illuminator carries a quadruple nosepiece positioned away from the observer allowing better viewing of the specimen. The objectives are all of a special version with annular lucite collector lenses for the dark field illumination. The objective threads are actually turned into the lucite eliminating the need for a special large-thread objective all threads are standard RMS 20mm. One port is vacant. The three 215mm tubelength objectives include:

    8x / 0.20 working distance 0.530 inches, largest field-of-view 0.093 inches
    20x / 0.40 working distance 0.035 inches, largest field-of-view 0.036 inches
    40x / 0.65 working distance 0.030 inches, largest field-of-view 0.018 inches

As far as it goes, the stand is in really fine condition cosmetically. The microscope body has been completely rebuilt so the binocular portion interpupillary system works smoothly as well as the zoom mechanism and the viewing port selector. Binocular alignment was touched up so both eyepieces are perfectly coincident. Regarding mechanical condition, the fine focus adjustment is a bit stiff, but functional. It should be relubricated for best functionality sometimes the stiffness is such that the coarse adjustment knob begins to turn along with the fine. The coarse adjustment is working very well. Optically, the diaphragms in the Trivert illuminator are not perfectly aligned nor are the objectives exactly parfocal. I will leave it up to the purchaser to correct these things should they wish to do so.

    $890.00

Bausch & Lomb EM-14 Dynazoom Trinocular Metallurgical Microscope with Trivert Illuminator
    -Used Excellent Condition!!

This is a wonderful example of a classic Bausch & Lomb Dynazoom microscope that is adapted for the examination of thicker opaque materials. The stand has been slightly modified by the addition of a spacer block which raises the limb about an inch higher from the base. The stage carrier has been modified so the stage sits a similar distance further from the viewing head, thus providing extra room for the vertical illuminator assembly.

These microscopes are very modular, so it is helpful to state how they are configured. The stand itself features a low-set coaxial coarse and fine adjustment mechanism that is comfortable to use with the hands resting on the table surface. The XY mechanical stage has low-set coaxial control knobs and a pair of removable specimen holders for an unobstructed stage surface. The stage has the rack & pinion substage assembly that is provided with an Abbe condenser with aperture iris.

The base of the stand includes an optional hi-intensity illumination housing with a lamp socket. This housing has a centerable field iris diaphragm with built-in filter recess. There is no transformer for the transmitted light illumination, it will need to be sourced elsewhere.

The stand is provided with the most elaborate version of the many tubes that were available for this instrument. Called the ‘Trivert’, it has provisions for bright field, dark field, and (when so optioned) polarized light. Please note that no polarized light accessories are included with the equipment! The illuminator has separate field and aperture diaphragms and a slot for receiving filters. A pre-centered GE 1630 lamp provides more-than-adequate light intensity. The lamp includes a Jeffey transformer with continuously regulating transformer. A selector knob next to the beam-splitter swings in a central stop for observations in dark field (field and aperture diaphragms must be fully opened).

The four 215mm tubelength objectives include:

    8x / 0.20 working distance 0.530 inches, largest field-of-view 0.093 inches
    10x / 0.25 working distance 0.390 inches, largest field-of-view 0.073 inches
    20x / 0.40 working distance 0.035 inches, largest field-of-view 0.036 inches
    40x / 0.65 working distance 0.030 inches, largest field-of-view 0.018 inches

The stand is in near-flawless condition cosmetically. The microscope body has been completely rebuilt so the binocular portion interpupillary system works smoothly as well as the zoom mechanism and the viewing port selector. Binocular alignment was touched up so both eyepieces are perfectly coincident. Regarding mechanical condition, the fine focus adjustment is fully functional and turns easily, but feels a bit ‘dry’. The coarse adjustment works very smoothly. Both stage controls work smoothly. The only optical ‘issues’ are the alignment of the diaphragms in the Trivert illuminator. Unless one slightly stops down the field diaphragm (still outside the viewing field, however), there is an annoying halo that appears during dark field observations. This halo is also present in bright field but is less obvious. Slightly stopping down the field diaphragm appears to block this spurious illumination. The objectives are not perfectly parfocal. However, the microscope works well the way it sits. All optical surfaces are in perfect condition.

The stage carrier has been modified so the stage sits a similar distance further from the viewing head, thus providing extra room for the vertical illuminator assembly. The excursion of the stage is such that a specer is needed to lift the sample high enough so it may be focused by the objectives. Minimum distance between the stage and ‘focal plane’ is about 10mm.

These microscopes are very modular, so it is helpful to state how they are configured. The stand itself features a low-set coaxial coarse and fine adjustment mechanism that is comfortable to use with the hands resting on the table surface. • American Optical (AO) 1860 Epi-Star Microscope

    $480.00

American Optical (branded Reichert) EpiStar materials inspection microscope. It includes the EpiStar stand along with a trinocular observation tube.

The Model 1860 Industrial Microscope stand has a very large yoke and is able to accommodate stages with up to 6 by 6 inches of travel. The stage is rigidly clamped to the microscope base and does not move during focusing. Instead, the nosepiece carrying the objectives is the only part that moves. The infinity corrected optics of the system allow moving the objectives relative to the rest of the stand without any loss in optical corrections.

The stand has a special super-long-life 20w halogen lamp (life rated at 10,000 hours) that is situated at the back of the stand. A filter turret has four positions one open, one diffusion disk, a daylight blue filter, and a strong green filter. A fully adjustable field iris is situated just forward of the filter turret.. The illumination train has a swing-out beam-splitter used for brightfield vertical illumination. When swung to one side using the lever on the right side of the microscope, the illumination flux is directed to an annular mirror just above the revolving nosepiece. The nosepiece will accommodate five objectives using RMS threads. The continuously regulating transformer is built into the base of the stand.

The stand includes a trinocular microscope tube, type 1103. This tube is a Seidentoph arrangement so tube length remains constant no matter what the setting of the interpupillary distance. A lever switches the image between the binocular and the phototube port. It is also possible to mount an optional image erection tube (type 3002) between the microscope stand and the observation tube. This tube is not included but is available as a separate item on our website..

The stand and tube are in excellent condition and fully functional. Please note that the microscope does not include the stage, stage mounting bracket, or any optics. Please check our website for availability of these items.
