We are seeking an experienced Vacuum Equipment Specialist to join our team. This role requires a deep understanding of vacuum technology and components. The specialist will work hands-on to disassemble, service, refurbish, and troubleshoot a wide variety of vacuum systems while identifying and classifying surplus equipment. The ideal candidate possesses extensive technical knowledge, thrives on problem-solving, and can confidently navigate unique and unfamiliar equipment from time to time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, inspect, service, and reassemble vacuum equipment, including rotary vane, turbomolecular, diffusion, cryogenic, and other pump types.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot vacuum systems to identify issues, recommend repairs, and restore equipment to working order.
  • Assist in the identification and classification of surplus vacuum equipment, even when little documentation is available.
  • Develop and execute refurbishment plans for equipment, ensuring quality and performance standards are met.
  • Maintain detailed records of servicing, refurbishment, and equipment cataloging activities.
  • Collaborate with inventory, sales, and technical teams to provide expertise and guidance on vacuum systems.
  • Stay updated on trends and advancements in vacuum technology to apply best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience working with vacuum systems in a technical, repair, or refurbishment capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of vacuum pump types (rotary vane, turbo-molecular, diffusion, cryogenic) and associated components (valves, gauges, seals, fittings).
  • Proven ability to identify and evaluate vacuum equipment, including older and less common systems, without relying heavily on documentation.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical, electrical, and operational issues in vacuum systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for vacuum technology, including operational pressures, cleanliness, and safety protocols.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate inventory and service records.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum (HV/UHV) systems and components.
  • Background in scientific, industrial, or research environments where vacuum equipment is commonly used.
  • Technical certifications related to vacuum technology, electronics, or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of refurbishing and repurposing surplus or second-hand equipment.
