Synchronous Modem Eliminator

RS-232 interface device used to connect two DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) devices directly without modems. The SME-4 regenerates RS-232 signals, provides clocking for synchronous communications, and supports both synchronous and asynchronous operation. It is commonly found in legacy IBM, industrial, and telecommunications environments. It can connect equipment up to 100 feet apart and operates at data rates up to 38.4 kbps.
