This is the mainframe portion of the Hewlett Packard HP 70000 Modular Measurement System (MMS). The HP70001A will accept eight 1/8-width modules and is either connected to an external display – (such as the HP70206A or the color HP70004A) or used with in internal display module HP70205A which is 3/8 modules wide. When connected to an external display, a pair of special modular system interface bus cables are needed (MSIB cables). More than one mainframe may be daisy-chained together. All module slots within the mainframe are connected by an internal MSIB bus.
